Open Mic Week 42: Oh Sister (Guitar and Violin)

in #openmic7 years ago (edited)

Hey Steemers!

Back with my first weekend off in 3 weeks! I am trying my first spit screen open mic to try and show my violin playing as well. It was a challenge, and I am sure there were better ways of doing it. I think they are a split second off from one another but oh well haha.

Today I am going to play a cover by Bob Dylan called "Oh Sister" off his Desire album, 1976. I remember in a high school talent show I was asked to play with a fellow friend who played guitar. We practiced for 10 minutes, and got up and played this song. We almost won the whole thing according to one judge hah.

Have a great weekend!

my heart just fell on the floor i love this split screen duel playing .....then then, you started singing and harmonizing.... tyler!!! oh my goodness too good... huge fucking smile to you!! love it

Thank you so much for the gift and vote! I will try to do the split screen again soon! Thanks for taking a listen. This would be a good way to jam too because you can play on your own time. I wish I had more time to be on steem! Hope you are well.

i totally agree, this is sorda what i had in mind when we was gonna do our skype jam.... seriously though when you started harmonizing with yourself was brilliant love love

Thanks! Means a lot. It's nice to be able to encorporate the violin too.

you know i should have said that, i was so hung up on your harmonizing with yourself I near forgot that... def that was the first aww moment... loved

Very well done! Nice to learn something new about you - you play violin as well as guitar. If you can do drums, Bass and keyboard then you can be a one man band!

Sounds like you're working hard, so play hard on your weekend off; enjoy!

Thanks! Yeah, I was a much better violinist when I played classical haha. I will try to enjoy tonight. Hope you are doing well and thanks for listening!

Dude, that's awesome playing music with yourself like that.

Thanks man! I've done it plenty of times on garage band but never for video. Hope you are doing well.

Very cool man! I've always wanted to learn violin but found it incredibly frustrating after playing guitar first for several years. What method did you use for synching up that split screen? Super awesome concept with lots of potential for cool ways to integrate it...

I recorded two separate videos. Once I finished one on my phone, I played it on my computer with headphones on and recorded the second on my phone again. Then I used iMovie on my phone and used the option to play two videos at once.

Thanks for listening!

Sounds very time consuming but worth it lol

Very cool Brother, I really like the split screen! Nice to see you pull out the violin again, good luck this week Brother.

Thanks man! It was sort of hard to figure out. Workin' hard can take away your freedom of free-time, but the music keeps going haha.

Ya, sorry about your day gig. Just keep music with always Brother!

Wow !!!
That is really cool. Still trying to figure it out how you did it.
Keep the music alive.
Peace !!!

It took me some time. I'm sure there is a better way to do. Thanks for stopping by!

Nice one. Really love this tune so much. Great work on the split screen work. I notice you're recording an audio overlap at the start, presumably that's to sync the two videos in the edits? Just curious.

Thanks! It was fun to put together. I actually just forgot to plug my headphones in at the beginning...but it was useful in getting the two videos to be close enough together. I used the same technique on my most recent. However, I was unable to get them as close together.

Oh cool. Back in my amateur film production days we'd clap our hands on camera at the start so we can match the clap sound to the image. As it's a very precise sound and gesture it ensures the following audio and image is tightly in sync. Might be worth trying?

Like the idea!

Thanks for stopping by. Sounds great!
