Here, we celebrate the creative spirit as we bring our inner visions into focus, prompted by the question: What does my higher self see?

🔥
The Spotlight - SVQ 19: How To Pray

Steemit Vision Quest 19: “How To Pray”. My artwork by @ksenja

prayer is education.

@ksenja is our spotlight artist for the 19th Vision Quest. This original illustration shows us "how to pray," while also providing the context about what prayer means, through the writing of Dostoevsky. What a wonderful way to answer the calling of this Steemit community challenge.

Regarding the lines by Dostoevsky, I love the sentiment about the newness that comes through prayer–fresh perspectives that bring us courage and understanding. Yes! And I appreciate the reminder to pray for those souls outside of ourselves too. So right!

And the visual is stunning. I love the way @ksenja creates an impression I can feel through her drawings. The rose color is strikingly beautiful in the way it is presented it here, with such warmth, bringing to mind Mary Magdalene and Joan of Arc.

The Showcase

Steemit Vision Quest 19: “How To Pray” Un nuevo Dios. by @betzaelcorvo

I am 100% with @betzaelcorvo in celebrating the indigenous cultures. What a great idea to consider the colonization of the Americas, and the ways prayer has evolved through the various cultures and their interpretations of the divine.

I think it's a great conversation this artist raises here, comparing the indigenous' "love and beauty way" versus the conquistadores' "fear and shame way," in relation to prayer. Excellent artwork too, as always. I recognize there are many ways to interpret a vision like this, and I love the fact that art is open to many interpretations. Makes me wonder.

Right now, I'm reading a book called Waterlily, by Ella Cara Deloria, which is a portrayal of 19th century Sioux life, from the women's perspective. This book is a rarity, focusing on the stories of women (as opposed to warriors, the chiefs, or the shamans), given to me by a long-time educator of Native American studies. Such a treat!

Steemit Vision Quest #19: How To Pray? by @fishyculture

As we all know, there are many different styles of praying, and each one is unique to the person praying. It's an intimate and sensitive subject to speak openly about. For this reason, I honor @fishyculture (and all of the participants) for sharing her perspective, so we may all benefit from learning "how to pray."

As some of you know, @fishyculture is a fantastic contributor in the Vision Quest, with her numerous entries and multiple appearances in the spotlight. I appreciate the way she calls the Vision Quest a "Spirit Walk"–I feel the same way about it. I've noticed that the more I pay attention to the spirit realm, the spirits, and Great Spirit, the more spiritually connected I feel, the more inspired I am... I am so very happy to be walking in spirit with you, @fishyculture.

Sigil for A Series of Misunderstandings, Part 2 by @in2itiveart

The intuitive artwork of @in2itiveart amazes me. It's as if the image opens, and then further opens as I see it differently, through another perspective. It reminds me of M.C. Escher's illustrations, except for these are even more compelling, in my opinion. What do you see in this image?

Steemit Vision Quest 19: “How To Pray” by @lildebbiecakes

@lildebbiecakes offers us the perspective of a person who prays daily, along with a solid visual to support her viewpoint. I find it very valuable to learn the healthy habits of a person with a steady, long-time daily prayer practice. Naturally, President Barack Obama comes to mind with this image, God bless him!

She Said Work Better with Polarities by @zetetrahedron369

Interestingly, @zetetrahedron369 created a piece that deals with this topic just before we launched the theme: "How To Pray." My thinking is that spirit is limitless in time and space, and so I welcome this SVQ entry created months in advance. In fact, I love it!

In my interpretation, this is a diagram of the spiritual "planes of existence." It's as if the person at the top-left is stepping forward toward a multi-layered shadow self. I can see how this type of work can be considered a form of prayer. Once again, the artwork is open to various viewpoints, and so I'd love to know how others view this piece.

“I Bloom” - Prayer Song for Steemit Vision Quest by @cabelindsay

The familiar phrase "Bloom where you are planted," is a message I found in my dad's handwriting, soon after his passing, and it continues to inspire me. This song is a special kind of prayer–a positive affirmation. Through this song, I express my vision for myself in a way that brings me closer to realizing it, a.k.a. being the change I wish to see in the world.

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

Oh yeah, you're right about the haiku in there. How cool! High-fives to you, @haikubot.

I am glad to see this pop up in my news feed again! I was a little worried the contest had been discontinued... 😕

Yay, I'm happy to hear from you again, thanks. Yeah, I've wavered a bit in my attention to Steemit this summer, but it still feels meaningful to keep the Quest alive. We'll launch #20 on Monday. I'm thinking the theme will be: "From The Mud." Does that resonate with you? Let me know if you have ideas!

Interesting idea. You said “from the mud,” and my mind immediately went to “out of the ashes.” Dunno why. 😛

Happy to hear the contest will keep running, and no worries! You were out having adventures and that’s AWESOME!

How wonderful. I like the way you show such respect to each and every artist in the spotlight as well as the showcase. Fantastic works of art here, and you treat them as such. Thank you.

Hey, thanks for seeing it that way. Feels good to acknowledge the brilliance and beauty wherever I see it. It's my pleasure.

gracias amigo, muchos éxitos. y seguimos navegando en este mar de artes.

So glad you posted the highlights for SVQ 19 this was a powerful quest that I regretted not having the time to participate in.. I will spend some time this evening looking over all the entries and leave comments for everyone. All the shared gifts here is such a blessing. Thank you @cabelindsay.

Cool! Yes, I've met some others too. In fact there are some mighty talented ones here. I'll see if I can remember them, and make connections for you.

I'm sure you're aware of the Juju Gum Conspiracy film, right?

Yeah, that film is mad weird shit!
jujugumconspiracy-2.gif

Here in Austin, Texas, weirdness is the kewlest, fyi. It's written all over our T-shirts and storefront signs: "Keep Austin Weird." I want you to know I respect weird, my friend. I appreciate the many facets of your creative spirit, be it trippy, sparkly, jazzy, wild... I have the same flavors in myself sometimes, even if I'm a bit subdued on the surface.

WORD! If someone would ask me I would tell them my bro Cabelindsay is a mad Rock star that found his inner zen. (Still weird, but in a good way)...

Oh fo sho! Thanks for seeing me that way, brother. I feel more like a rock in this moment, as I'm still working on the star part. :)

i am a huge fan of weird and there is surely so weird in my films. lots actually!
i am actually in austin tx right now. i am here acting in a weird fim! ha! i live in LA but grew up here in austin and know many filmmakers here! i bet we know some of the smae folks my guess!

Ah cool to hear you're here in ATX. Are you enjoying your stay so far? Hoping your filming is going great.

and i didnot know about the juju gum. i will take a look!!

I loved all of these entries. Its amazing that the SVQ is the contest on Steemit from which I grow the most. Its like I enter into another world when I come to this space. The entries that were still on my mind days after reading them were by @ksenja and @zetetrahedron369

#musictomyears. Thank you, yes, I feel the same. Yeah, wow, it's as if #svq is a spirit in itself, stirring us, and inviting us to dive in and swim, maybe even surf on the waves it creates. 💦✨

P.S. Good to know the specific entries that resonate with you. I really trust you, you know, and I look up to you as you have a special way of seeing and speaking the truth and love inside.
