From History: Today's Famous Birthdays

1. Michael Schumacher
Michael Schumacher is a retired German race driver and was part of Formula 1 for 3 different teams Jordan Grandprix, Benetton, Ferrari and Mercedes teams and is regarded as one of the all time greats of Formula One racing.
He also holds the record of winning seven Formula One Championships.
The other records currently he is holding are Most Grandprix wins with a tally of 91, Most Fastest Laps with 77, Most number of races won in a single season with 13 wins in 2004 season.
Schumacher is known for his humanitarian and charitable works and is an ambassador to UNESCO.
In 2013, Schumacher suffered head injury while he was skiing in French Alps resort in Meribel and was on a holiday with family and friends.
Since then he was in coma until in June 2014, his manager confirmed that Schumacher is no more in coma.
Since September 2014, Schumacher is receiving treatment and rehabilitation from his home on the shores of Lake Geneva.
He was named one of the UNESCO Champions of Sport in 2002.
In 2010 he was made Officier of Légion d'honneur by France Government.
2. Mel Gibson
Mel Gibson is an American actor and filmmaker who is a 2 time Academy Award Winner for his directorial movie Braveheart(Best Director and Best Picture).
Mel is best known for his role Max Rockatansky in his first 3 films Mad Max Post-apocalyptic series.
His best known films apart from Breaveheart are, Forever Young, Lethal Weapon and its sequels, Payback, The Patriot, What Women Want, The Expandables 3 (he acted as a villain).
He achieved much success as a director with movies Braveheart, Hacksaw Ridge (this also received 2 Academy Awards with 4 other nominations), The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto.
3. George Martin
George Martin was an English record producer, composer, audio engineer and musician who was known as "Fifth Beatle" because of his involvement with each of the "the Beatles'" original albums.
He was also remembered for producing 30 number one hits in UK and 23 number one hits in US.
In his career spanning 6 decades, he contributed for the music, live performances and television programmes.
Martin was Knighted in 1996 with Knight Bachelor.
He was inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.
4. J. R. R. Tolkien
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien shortly known as J. R. R. Tolkien was an English writer, poet and university professor who is known for high fantasy works related to The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings.
He was a Fellow of Pembroke College, Oxford and also Fellow of Merton College, Oxford.
He is popularly known as "Father of Modern Fantasy Literature" because of greater success of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
He was ranked 5th on the list of "50 greatest British Writers since 1945" by The Times.
Forbes in 2009 ranked him "5th Top Earning Dead Celebrity".
In 1972 Tolkien was appointed as Commander of the Order of British Empire.
5. Gordon Moore
Gordon Moore is an American businessman and co-founder and chairman of Intel Corporation, which specializes in computer memory, integrated circuits and processors.
Moore, after his PhD from California Institute of Technology, started working for Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation and subsequently rose to the position of Director of R & D department.
When he was asked to predict the semiconductor components industry after 10 years, Moore, based on the situation at that time of almost doubling the number of components such as transistors, resistors, diodes and capacitors every year, he said that the same trend will continues 10 years down the lane.
This is popularly called as "Moore's Law".
Moore became the member of National Academy of Engineering in 1976.
He is an inductee into Computer History Museum in 1998.
Moore received President Medal of Freedom in 2002. In 2010, he was inducted into National Inventor's Hall of Fame.
What a day to have a Birthday - two absolute great men Michael Schumacher and Mel Gibson truly inspirational characters. Another great round up.
Yes, both are legends in their own field. Infact, all the guys mentioned in this blog have some nice achievements in whatever they have worked.

I didn't hear about Michael Schumacher in a long time! I wonder if he is fully recovered by now
Well, most of the articles I read today tell the fans not to lose hope as he is responding to the rehabilitation. But, there is no confirmed news from his family members. Hope he gets well soon.
yea they don't really give out a lot of information which is ok. I just hope he recovers..
