From History: Today's Famous Birthdays

This is an effort to provide some information on Five selected famous personalities born on this day.

1. Isaac Newton

Sir Isaac Newton was an English mathematician, astronomer, theologian and physicist who is recognized as one of the most influential scientists of all time.

His law of motion to represent gravitational forces is one of the most famous inventions.

His book "Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica" (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy) is said to be the foundation for classical mechanics.

He was also the first to build a practical reflecting telescope thus developing the theory of color based on the prism decomposition of white light to colors.

Newton got Knighted by Queen Anne in 1705 and served in various positions of Royal Society including it's President.

2. Louis Braille

Louis Braille was a French educator and is famous for inventing a system which helps blind people to read and write.

Braille lost vision in both eyes when he met with an accident in his early childhood.

That did't hinder him to excel in education as he mastered his disability and continued his education and earned a scholarship to France's Royal Institute for Blind Youth.

As a student of Royal Institute for Blind Youth he started developing the codes that will enable the blind people to read and write.

Though the Braille is universally recognized, it wasn't adapted until 2 years after his death.

Asteroid 9969 Braille is named after Louis Braille.

He is listed among "100 Most Influential Inventors Of All Time" by The Encyclopedia Britannica.

3. James Bond

James Bond was an American Ornithologist(A person who studies birds) who use to study the birds of the Caribbean and his name was used by writer Ian Fleming for the historical British Spy character by his name.

He wrote a book "Birds of the West Indies" as he mainly studied the birds from Caribbean.

Ian Fleming was a keen bird watcher and use to read James Bond's books on ornithology.

So, when Fleming was looking out for a name for his mystery fictions in 1953, he contacted real James Bond and asked him whether he can use the name James Bond for his fiction character.

James Bond agreed to that and that's how the British Spy character name became James Bond.

James Bond received Institute of Jamaica's Musgrave Medal, The Brewster Medal of American Ornithologists Union and Leidy Award of the Academy of Natural Sciences for his contributions to Ornithology.

4. Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah

Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah is a Kuwaiti politician and the Prime Minister of Kuwait since 2011.

He started his career in 1968 as an adviser at Administrative Affairs Department and then worked on various roles such as director of Administrative Affairs Department, assistant undersecretary of administrative and financial affairs and then Governor of serving Hawally and Ahmedy.

He then worked in the ministry of Kuwait to work as Minister of Social and Labor Affairs and Minister of Information before being selected as Deputy Prime Minister along with being Defence Minister.

Jaber was awarded with "Medal of King Issa First Class" from Bahrain's King, Hamad bin Issa Al Khalifa in 2007 when Jaber visited Bahrain.

He is also the first Arab recipient of Japan's highest honor conferred on foreigners "Order of the Rising Sun, Grand Cordon".

5. Brian Josephson

Brian Josephson is a Welsh theoretical physicist and professor of physics who is known for his works on superconductivity and quantum tunneling.

He became the first and only recipient of Nobel Prize in Physics in 1973, when he was awarded Nobel Prize for his prediction of Josephson effect made in 1962 when he was a PhD student.

Josephson effect is the phenomenon of supercurrent(a current that flows indefinitely long without any voltage applied) across a device known as a Josephson junction (JJ), which consists of two superconductors coupled by a weak link.

Josephson has been a Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge since 1962.

Josephson is also a recipient of other awards such as Research Corporation Award for outstanding contributions to science(1969), the Hughes Medal and Holweck Prize(1972).

He is a Fellow of Royal Society of London selected in 1970.
