Hello Folks!!

This is my entry to the ART EXPLOSION WEEK contest Hosted by @juliakponsford The theme for this week is "DEATH"

Death can have many interpretations, for some, it is the end of life, for others the beginning. Others believe that it is the door to a much better or worse place.

In Mexico, death is personified by a woman, many people celebrate the day of the holy death by painting their faces in the shape of a skull.
The Christian and Catholic churches are opposed to being awarded the title of "SAINT" because the rites with Santa Muerte are often associated with rituals and spells, having a more esoteric component.

For this contest personify death in a Catrina or Santa Muerte

This is the process of creating my illustration:

The Tools:

  • Mechanical Pencil.
  • HB Leads.
  • Charcoal Pencil.
  • Difusser.
  • Brush.
  • Moldable Eraser.
  • A4 Opaline 300G.

Step by Step

  • As always I start making a template or sketch of the drawing with the hb pencil.

  • Then I drew on its faces the marks and ornaments of the skull with the charcoal pencil.

  • Then I began to shade her pale face using charcoal and graphite powder with the help of the brush.

  • I filled the holes in his eyes with graphite powder to then be able to make the shade and volume of his eyes painted with the charcoal pencil, also erasing a little with the moldable eraser I made some glitters.

  • After finishing the face I made the shadows of the lower part, so that it was darker inside the tunic, I made very dark shadows on much darker elements.

  • Nex,t I illustrate details on the hood with the charcoal pencil and a lot of patience.

  • I finished the right part of the illustration making very dark shadows on the tunic, all this with the pencil of charcoal and dust.

  • To finish, I made more details on the side of the tunic where clearly hits the light.

This is the Final Art!

Beautiful work! I think that the personification of death is a good thing for people, though I can see why the church might have a problem with her!

I am rather late visiting the Pay it Forward Curation contest entries, but that's how I found you. Keep up the great work!
