The Secret of Hell's Chicken "Ayam Geprek"
Hell's chicken, maybe that's what comes to mind when looking at a dish with a bright red tone. This certainly can be a dish "very messy and really terrible" for people who do not like the spicy taste.
In this photo session, we bring you to a dramatic red color atmosphere that creates the hot taste of chili.
This dish is a typical Indonesian food, fried chicken which is then doused with copious amounts of chili, then flattened! Indonesian people call it "Ayam Geprek". Ayam means Chicken, and Geprek means the method of serving chicken by flattening it using a mortar and pestle but does not cause the chicken became crushed.
The uniqueness of the presentation technique produces the popularity of this menu. Indonesians really like this menu, with various levels of spiciness. People are starting to like challenges with friends, to prove who is the best at conquering the spicy taste.
Use of Chili for Traditional Medicine
Chilies are not from Indonesia. They are considered came from Mexico. Even so, Indonesian people today rely heavily on spicy flavors and are accustomed to having a strong spice flavor on every dish.
Chili also makes it hard for Indonesians to taste the softer taste like the taste of Western food.
More than that, chili was also part of the Indonesian people's habits to treat flu, headaches, and toothaches. Indeed there are still many health controversies related to this matter. But including me, it usually eats spicy food during colds and headaches, and that can reduce pain.
Spicy will make us who suffer from flu or headaches can be better. The spicy and hot taste makes our taste buds more cold during the flu.
There is an interesting article that you can read about chili which is used as a treatment. https://www.thepracticalherbalist.com/holistic-medicine-library/chili-pepper-herbal-fire-for-digestion-and-circulation/
Fruit salad with a spicy seasoning called "RUJAK" is another popular thing that is very attractive to Indonesians to ward off flu.
This crazy spicy chicken has also become a culinary idol in Indonesia and has increased the income of culinary businesses. Even not only chicken, there are also variations of vegetables such as mushrooms and eggplants, but still with the same way to cook and seasoning. Equally crazy spicy!
Secrets in the Recipe
Let us tell you the secret in this super-spicy "Geprek Chicken" recipe. Before the chicken is fried, the chicken must be steamed first with spices including garlic, coriander, salt, and pepper. Then after it is steamed, it is dipped in egg and flour to produce the outer skin texture of the chicken which is crispy but still soft inside when it fried.
Then, what about the sambal (read: chili sauce)? Not only does it use a lot of chili, so it has an authentic delicious taste, also add garlic, onion, salt, and also a little sugar. Smoothing spices is done by using a traditional tool called ulekan (read: mortar and pestle). Then stir-fry the mixture until it smells good.
A tool called ulekan will also be used to flatten the chicken when it has been smothered with sauteed chili sauce.
Savory, spicy, and the sensation of the chicken itself is worthy of being an idol that makes your tongue fall in love.
Don't forget that you will sweat after enjoying the spicy taste! That is why we like to enjoy this dish during the flu, to relieve the throat and quickly remove mucus in the nose so that it is no longer difficult to breathe during the flu.
We strongly recommend you to try "Ayam Geprek" a.k.a Hell's Chicken, Super Spicy Chicken.
Then, regarding drink while enjoying this dish, iced tea became a popular drink paired with this super spicy chicken menu.
Serving chicken like this is also effective to make us ravenous to eat and effective to dispel the taste of appetite. The aroma of the chili is really tempting.
We usually rely on this menu to arouse appetite. We can gingerly eat lots of rice with this spicy dish.
How about you? Do you like it spicy? That was a photo session with food that really can make you sweat and drool!

A really good spicy chicken!
Yeaah, spicy crazy!
I’m at a loss to understand, what for a slice of cucumber lies on the same plate. Perhaps it is put for color contrast? perhaps it is put for taste contrast? both options are not very good, in my opinion ..
It's just the way Indonesian serve a meal. They use it as a garnish/side dish.
o-o! so, it goes together well for them?.. hmmm. ok =)
Thanks for helping me to answer about the question.
Sorry for forget about this detail (about cucumber as a garnish) in my post. 🙏🙏🙏
