I’ve asked @bycoleman to hand over the keys for the @nobidbot account to the community
I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of people and SP which has congregated around the #nobidbot tag. @bycoleman has been an essential part of its growth. Still, I was a uncomfortable when I saw he opened an account called @nobidbot though. I envisioned this as a community effort. I wasn’t looking to control it myself and honestly, I was hoping that people could take it into their own hands so I wouldn’t have to do much. That’s exactly what happened. @bycoleman announced plans to start a curation project which sounded great to me.
But there were a few things that rubbed me the wrong way. The fact that he was making so many decisions on his own, the decision to make the account, who would curate and how, where the funds went. it just didn’t seem right to me that he would use this username for that because it essentially puts him in charge of what is turning into a movement. It’s like the supporters of bitcoin cash owning bitcoin.com (without the animosity), it’s misleading. I believe how such an account is used should be decided by the community, or at least should be approved by the community.
So today We agreed that if the community agreed, he’d hand over the account and start his curation project usin another one. You can see our conversation here:
To be honest, I’m not exactly sure what to do with the account. I think @bycoleman is more capable of utilizing it efficiently to grow the #nobidbot tag than I am by myself. But I feel that decisions regarding how this account is used and where it’s funds and upvotes go should be decided by the community as the name itself represents more than the will of one person. I hope we can think of a use for it together and still make the most of it.
I do want to see @bycoleman succeed in his curation effort and I do want to see him personally rewarded for his efforts, just not with this username. I appreciate everything he is doing though and I hope we can continue to work together.
Looking good. Keep it up folks!
Articles using the #nobidbot tag.
I don't really understand, except for the profit motive which strikes me as more than a little optimistic, what advantage bycoleman's plan has over just supporting Curie, which has established infrastructure, witness support, and already selects for users who don't have significant payouts.
I guess it allows you to upvote posts about Steemit. I doubt the other forbidden topics are particularly important.
While I am a big supporter of (and contributor to) the Curie curation effort, I don't see that this would have to be a "one or the other" situation. Curie has a pretty intense competition among curators to submit only the best posts, and only the best of those get upvoted. There is still a world of good posting out there that won't get the Curie upvote. I am personally a top Curie curator, and since I started 6 1/2 months ago have personally accounted for 10% of Curie approvals with my own submissions. That hasn't stopped me from operating my own curation effort (@r-bot) and upvoting many times more posts that I wouldn't submit to Curie, but which are still good posts.
BTW the easiest way to support Curie is with a witness vote. Curie recently dropped out of top 20 witnesses and in so doing lost its major source of income. Luckily we all have 30 witness votes :) I see no reason anyone couldn't support Curie with a witness vote, and also support other curation efforts.
Nice seeing the love for Curie though :)
Cheers - Carl
Yes, I have trouble figuring out how to spend 30 witness votes, but Curie is an easy one.
Hey @carlgnash , you probably saw that @bycoleman suggested I contact you. If you have any ideas about how to best grow the #nobidbot tag, feel free to share or join us in the chat.
Also I think it’d be really awesome if some curie curators searched the tag to find some great material. Us content creators can work to show our best work and bring other great creators while the curators can come curate what they like here.
Hello Senor Pineapple-for-a-head :) Shoot me an invite to the chat
Thanks for posting this. I'm not sure where you see that I was agreeing to continue curating using a different username, but it really does not mater, it is a mute point.
Are you sure you asked me to hand them over, or did I offer them to you, repeatedly. You might want to re-read our comment thread and then change your title. These are the types of statements that can cause so much controversy and lack of cohesiveness.
I really want this tag and movement to succeed and I do not want controversy to cause problems in this fragile beginning stage, so I am handing over the owner key today for @nobidbot, to you so you and your team can pick up where I left off and hopefully take it to its full potential. Let's get some quality back on this platform!!
Blessings to you and your team. I left you another comment that I can share the queries with you if you want them.
I hope the two of you can work this out. Who does what and how isn't as important as that it gets going. Community guidance would be good, but it will have it limits because there's just too many of us with too many opinions. A trusted group of advisors might be the best way to go, but you're also going to need to make day to day decisions on the ground without an oversight committee. Tricky deal. I wish you all the best.
Thanks my friend. Always good to hear words of wisdom.
I have already made the decision to turn this over to @whatamidoing, I really did not intend to step on any toes and have plenty of other concepts I can work on to towards our mutual goal of more quality articles on our platform.
I created the account since no one else did, not sure why no one else did, but since it was available, I went with it, this seemed Innocent enough, but apparently not, yet I can see all sides.
So no problem, I am happy to turn it over to the community or whoever thinks they can run with it. I have a lot of hours invested in @nobidbot but, that is the way it goes. I'll move on.
I have not received the transfer information yet from @whatamidoing, but once I get that, I will send the key split in half via two different mediums to ensure they are protected during transit.
So I am just waiting on this final info.
Blessings
You should both be equally responsible for @nobidbot. You put in the work and effort with good intentions.
Thanks, but I'm all done. This is his baby now.
I’m not going to share my email on the blockchain, can you send it to me in steemitchat or discord? My name is the same there
When you send a transfer that has a memo that starts with # then it is secure and cannot be read by anyone other than the sender and receiver.

What are your plans for the SBD from the article payouts that are pending?
no plan, if you'd like me to send it to you I can. If not ill power it up
You can go ahead and power it up, that will be fine. I am very happy to donate to this cause.
I have sent you the posting and active keys via email and secure memo.
Here is my post on this transfer.
I do hope this quality movement continues and grows exponentially.
Blessings and thanks again for your time and talents!
Here's my $0.02.
Consensus building is a tricky thing in any situation, and Steemit more so. Trying to run things based on community input would be tough to do under normal circumstance, but here, it's compounded by the fact there's not a good or efficient way to get the news out to everyone. I suppose people could follow the nobidbot blog, but people need to know where to look first, which means either you or bycoleman blogging about it for quite some time and then the rest of us doing our best to resteem the posts until you see some actual followers on your the blog.
Even with the will of the community manifesting, you're still going to need to make decisions where the mandate isn't that clear. So, however you end up doing that could just as easily carry over to all of it.
Having a ready mechanism set up for guidance (Discord messages, maybe) and then having a group that can implement the guidance would seem to be the best way to go. And if you're the one feeling that you need to know what the will of the community is on various things (rather than having your finger on the pulse, or believing bycoleman does) then it's probably something you should be shepherding.
The last thing either of you want, from what I can see, is for the initiative to die before it's begun.
The nice thing about a tag is that it’ll follow the will of the combination of people using it. I’m not too worried, it seems the idea is already out there. Of course some people with other intentions might use the tag in a way we don’t agree with but people can come up with their own solutions to these problems if they don’t find the answers while working together.
Of course we can give it a huge boost by utilizing a community account, but even if we fail to do so, I’m not worried as long as we have some good people with high sp paying attention to the tag and we already have a few.
Proactive action is not to be underestimated. That said, we have grown careful because of all the wrong ways a lot of things on this platform have seemingly been going. So both of you have a point here and you handled it like adults (as opposed to some major players on this platform who behave like little kids).
The main challenge to me now seems to be finding a trustworthy and capable individual or group to take over the programming and maintenance of the project in the spirit of the community, which is something @bycoleman has repeatedly pointed out.
If YOU (the reader) are a programmer and want to help Steemit become what it intended to be in a community effort - this might be your chance ;)
I personally feel we don’t NEED any programmers, we just need to attract some good writers and artists and some decent people with high SP to the tag. I do hope we attract some programmers to the tag as well of course, but everything will work itself out herenwith the right people on board.
I see, well the way you are handling it all leaves no doubt in me that this project will succeed.
Truly amazing to see how much demand there is for an actual value-based trending feed, we are not crazy after all ;)
I certainly see your points. Since this movement was originally your idea that you got rolling in the first place, I think it would make sense for you @whatamidoing to have a copy of the keys so you have equal control and say over how @nobidbot is used along with @bycoleman. That way you can help base its operations how the community and you feel it should be set.
Shrugs
I would have been ok with that but I’m not going to push anyone to do anything they don’t want to do. I think he’s pretty good at doing things his own way and doesn’t really want to be slowed down by long discussions and debates and I would rather find likeminded people to share responsibilities and rewards. I think the account itself doesn’t need to do much if we can bring lots great people to the tag and if Coleman has something else he wants to work on, I’m sure he will do great things elsewhere.
This is the the most exciting thing I've seen on steemit in a while. It's a pity that it needs to be done but with bots running a muck I am fully behind this and will be tagging my posts #nobidbots and hopefully see about delegating to the cause.
Its amazing how quickly this 'tiny' idea grew.
I just like the tag, it creates another trending page, it's nice :-)

Glad you are using it! Please upvote some good undervalued posts you find using this tag :-)
