2018 Nobel Prize in Medicine awarded to 2 Cancer Immunotherapy Researchers.
I didn't pay attention to the Medicine Nobel and I should have. It went to two researchers who have been crucial to developing immunotherapy to treat a variety of cancers, including multiple myeloma.
In case you didn't know, my life drastically changed when my mother was diagnosed with non-curable cancer. It is true that cancer touches everyone whether indirectly or directly, but you are never really fully prepared for when that eventuality happens. Thankfully, she has responded to more traditional chemotherapy drugs, along with the stem cell transplant, but if and when the time comes, there is a group of immunotherapy drugs already available (since 2015) and there is CART-T stuff in the pipeline. The goal all along has been to use what's currently out there for as long as it works and hope that by the time all else has failed, these cutting edge drugs will be very effective.
So thank you Dr. James P. Allison and Dr. Tasuku Honjo.
