Hot or Not? Vote to have your favorite topic profiled!

in #news8 years ago (edited)

This is my friend really good friend Melissa.

By day, she's a professional photographer, one of the best I've ever met actually!
Her instagram is https://www.instagram.com/melissjs/ and she'll be posting the requisite hello image to her instagram shortly.

We have been talking for awhile now about starting a weekly Topic of Interest news service in part to fill the void left behind by The Daily Decrypt. However, being rather new to all of this herself, she would be doing this from an "outsider's POV". The goal being to help new people come in and understand what makes this stuff tick.

Now I'm on Steem, I've realized that steem is the perfect platform for this, so I begged her to come by and sign up.
So Melissa (as well as several others) are trying to join Steem, but can't right now because new sign ups are closed.

In the meantime I thought it would be fun to help her start this, with a list of coin developers and other topics you would like to see her try to profile.

So go ahead, use the comments section below to vote for your favorite coin developer and/or suggest topics for future shows. We will launch the show with the highest rated topics.

So who do you want to see profiled? What topics are most interesting to you?

I'd like to see interviews of the whales here, mainly regarding their ethics, lifestyles, and dreams for the future, with anything marketing hype related edited out. Basically, I'd like to know a little bit about the people that are benefiting from my content and participation here.

Oh that's a great idea!
Anyone in particular?

I'd start right at the top and work down. Thinking about it more, I'd rather see investigative style journalism on them than interviews. Dig up the dirt so to speak. If I had any, I would donate steem for this project for sure.

I don't think hard hitting investigative journalism is in the cards on this one.
But I also don't believe in digging around in someone's garbage or laundry pile looking for dirt. It serves no purpose but to foment dissent.

Truthfully, there is nothing that can be done if you dislike a person except to find things about them that you do like.

I disagree completely. I want to know who I'm making rich. It's as simple as that. If I become a public figure that is being empowered to have tons of influence, I'd have no problem with anyone digging into my past because they want to know who they're empowering. This is because I've always done the best I could at the time to be an awesome person. If I found out that one of the whales here was a kiddy diddler, or rapist, or had ripped off a bunch of people in the past, I'd drop this site like a hot rock and move on to something done by ethical people. That's what I and many others could do with the information. Anything aside from hard hitting investigative journalism is just going to turn straight into advertising and that's something I have absolutely zero interest in.

Oh! The way this article was written, with the title, and picture, I thought she was a coin developer, and you were profiling her as a coin developer.

It wasn't until I got to the end of the article, scrolled up, re-read some things, squinted twice, and went "oooohhh, now I get it" :)

She is a talented gal with a diverse and eclectic set of interests including being an aspiring software developer. She developed her own website from scratch, and I've seen her troubleshoot a mac that wouldn't boot due to a failed drive. She probably could develop a coin, but let's focus on people and topics you'd like to have profiled.

Just re-read your comment and realized you're right. It's not as clear as it could be.
Any suggestions for some edits, or is it more of a setting expectations thing?

While it seems like everyone talks about crypto stuff on here.. Voting for your favorite coin developer is something that goes over better on standard crypto news sites, or bitcointalk itself. You probably won't see a lot of people rushing and upvoting this type of post for that reason.

Couple that with the fact, that it's now becoming abundantly clear, that I think we're 50/50 now, for crypto enthusiasts and "normal people", like their brothers, sisters, wifes, husbands, friend of a friend. We're really not a crypto group like we use to be..

(Or crypto people just want to talk about normal stuff, or steemit itself, and not so much coin stuff)

Perhaps you're right. She actually wants cover a bunch of things, but I kind of applied the "let's talk crypto" angle on her because I finally managed to convince her that we're not all just insane.

Animal rights, vegan movement, democracy/voting fraud, even space aliens are topics we've discussed covering. But I shoehorned in the crypto thing to fit better here. Maybe just open the space up a little there and do a general idea solicit. If this post doesn't get more attention, I'll have her rework it in her intro to me page when she finally signs up.
Frustrating having the service closed to new users like this.

edit Changed the name of the posting to reflect the broader scope of the project.

@apocaloptimisto I'm starting a new thread here because it looks like we hit the comment depth limit. It's interesting that you feel the way you do. Do you really think hard hitting investigative journalism would fly?
I mean if you're looking to dig dirt, my opinion is that you should get it from primary sources. A news show that exists to dig dirt and not spread actual news is worse than an infomercial, but serves the same purposes.
It's an attempt at trying to control your thoughts, feelings and emotions by presenting evidence to drive your opinion.

If you are worried about making someone else rich, who they are, what their background is. To my mind you should do your own due dilligence and that might mean digging around for yourself, or hiring a private investigator. I know I do exactly this whenever I'm looking to commit a substantial amount of cash to a new endeavor. It's just a good habit to be in.

But getting your info from a news source that's pimping or digging is just a bad idea in general.

I vote your post and I ask please that you see my post https://steemit.com/crowdfunding/@webocel/58kd3g-my-dream-needs-your-vote-crowdfunding, with your vote I can put my business and thus have a job and be able to feed my children. With just a few clicks you can change my life. Thanks in advance. Nicolas

Please stop spamming everyone's story with a link to your post unless it has something to do with the topic. I hate seeing it everywhere.

Lol I think some folks think you're referring to me. It's causing engagement hesitation.

I doubt it. But nonetheless, I downvoted my comment so you can't see it anymore. Good luck.

Thanks! You're awesome!
