NATURAL DISASTER IN SOUTHERN MISSOURI

in #news7 years ago (edited)

What comes to mind when you see an image like this?

As @bluerthangreen and @papa-pepper were driving through Missouri today, we suddenly started seeing scenes like this. Incredible damage as well as vehicles and buildings that were utterly destroyed. Our first thought was that a tornado must have hit.

Not a tornado

We looked at scenes like this and tried to imagine exactly what could cause this. Soon we saw some locals cleaning up, and asked if a tornado hit. They commented, “It sure looks like it” but then continued to explain that it was a flash flood. We had experienced some flash flooding over the weekend too, and the driveway up to wear we are staying turned into a river for some hours. It was certainly a sight to see.

The locals even told us about watching a house float down the street!

In West Plains, MO, though, the waters rose to the point that some buildings had five feet of water inside them. All over the place there were collapsed buildings, overturned vehicles, and destruction.

Look at these trailers that were swept downstream until they were caught by this fence!

As we continued to drive to Alton, MO, the situation remained the same. In fact, we are having some difficulty just getting around right now.

There are closed roads and even some parts where the rushing waters undercut the roads and have made driving on them completely unsafe.

It is amazing how quickly situations can change and how suddenly storms, floods, and tornados can affect everything around us, even our very lives. When dealing with these “natural disasters” be extra cautious, and be safe travelling out there too, especially in areas affected by these recent storm cells.

I did not bother to take any “proof” selfies today. The local residents in these areas are dealing with enough right now. I did see news crews setting up their lighting for their upcoming newscasts in what is left of homes and businesses, but I’ll just tell you that these photos are originals taken by @papa-pepper in the last few hours.

Looks heavy man . Good luck to all involved

Yeah, it must have been really serious!

Fortunately Climate Change is a hoax and flash floodings and tornadoes will not increase in number and power. sigh

This has more to do with planet niburu

Thankfully there is still a rainbow in the clouds.

Prayers and love to all who are affected by these horrific storms.

I am sending good thoughts to everyone in the areas affected. Thank you for the boots on the ground reporting, much appreciated @papa-pepper.
On yesterdays weather radar, it showed the giant cell covering all of missouri and part of northern arkansas. Unusual, but seems to increasing in frequency this year. Please stay aware and be safe @papa-pepper.

We had some serious stuff by us in northern Arkansas too! Thanks @bilbop!

May the Almighty make easy for all

It seems as though devastating flooding is a daily occurrence somewhere in the world.

Did you get back to me on the latest Survival game quest?

I think your team is the last one I'm waiting for. You've got to choose to seek shelter in a cave, hide under a tall tree, or make your own shelter.

The cave sounds like a fine option!

Nature is a terrible force, I sympathize with all affected.

It reminds us of how small we really are. Thank you.

Flash floods are hard to deal with, especially as a responder.

They happen really fast, often without warning, and you can't fight the power of that much water moving so fast.

Pretty much all we can do is help with the cleanup afterwards.
Where I live we don't get too many flash flooding incidents, but we do get quite a lot of regular flooding. Mainly because it rains a lot here and we have a bunch of mountains nearby.

Those folks have a hard couple of months ahead of them as they sort things out and get their lives back on track.

Maybe one day, when Steemit is big enough (Facebook sized) we could have a disaster recovery fund to help out people affected by events like this.

Good points, and I like that last idea!

I feel bad for those who had to go through this. Don't mess with Mother Nature! Thanks for the post.

Yeah, it looked really rough. I didn't want to take too many photos will all the people who's stuff was destroyed around. I'm sure they feel bad enough already.
