The graphic architecture of NVIDIA Volta will be replaced by Ampere
NVIDIA has decided on the name of the graphics architecture, which will replace the upcoming Volta architecture. The new architecture of Ampere is named after the physicist Andre-Marie Ampere.
The presentation of NVIDIA Ampere is scheduled for 2018, it will be held during the 2018 Graphics Technology Conference (GTC) conference, which is arranged by NVIDIA. However, one should be prepared for the fact that next year only a partial publication of information about the new graphic architecture will take place. In the future, NVIDIA engineers will conduct several technical presentations, after which the first products based on Ampere (most likely, professional level) will appear. Before the release of consumer graphics cards GeForce with GPU based on the architecture of Ampere, it may take a long time.
Note that NVIDIA still has not released consumer versions of video cards based on the Volta architecture, there are still products on the market based on Pascal architecture, whose age is 18 months. If NVIDIA continues to use the four-digit numbering scheme, then, following the GeForce 10 Pascal family, we can expect the appearance of a series of GeForce 20 Volta and GeForce 30 Ampere.
NVIDIA is not yet in a hurry to share information about the features of the architecture of Ampere.
