Grass-Fed Startup Offering Delivery Service To 48 States
The interest for grass-fed products on the market has exploded over the last several years and you can now find a variety of options in this space, like grass-fed yogurt, grass-fed milk, grass-fed butter, grass-fed hot dogs, grass-fed burgers, steaks, grass-fed protein powder, and more.
The grass-fed market is estimated to be worth roughly $300+ million.
A number of startup operations have sprung up to try and meet the growing grass-fed need. And you can now find options on the market today like grass-fed beef delivery, meat subscription services, and cow-funding operations. Consumers want quality, free-range meat, that isn't laced with hormones, antibiotics, or fed a GMO diet etc.
And despite there being a premium on the grass-fed products, consumers have still been willing to go the extra mile and try to obtain their favorite food items even if they do cost a little bit more.
Right now, it's estimated that the total grass-fed market for the US makes up only about 1 percent of the overall beef market, though it continues to grow and that's only expected to continue in the next few years to come.
Grass-fed beef is now provided at a variety of establishments around the US, with well-known places like Carls Jr, Yeah! Burger, and Arby's opting to serve their own grass-fed options. The product has also made its way onto the menu of huge food giants like Blue Apron and can be found on the shelves at an increasing number of grocery stores.
Those who are interested in the product are overwhelmingly concerned about quality, price, and convenience.
And to try and meet the demand, a variety of grass-fed delivery options are now out there and catering to consumers around the US. You've got options like Butcher Box, The Grass Fed Guy, Greensbury Market, Foxhollow Farm, and many others.
There is also River Watch Beef which is an operation that is based in Kansas City.
River Watch Beef has expressed its own initiative to try and support local, family-owned businesses and they have admitted that they are entirely funded by only friends and family. They also hope to partner with friends in the future, family etc, so that they can scale their operation.
Right now, they plan on taking care of everything from start to finish. That means that they are in charge of raising the animals as well as processing them, then packaging, and eventually delivering them directly to the customer.
When it comes to their grass-fed products, they offer a monthly beef club subscription service, which you can also order bi-monthly, or quarterly.
To give you an idea of the cost, it's around $99 right now for a one month subscription and that includes some steaks, stew meat, hamburger, roast or brisket, and more. It's estimated to come out to roughly 9 or 10 lbs and will make up to 20 servings.
The farmers involved with the River Watch Beef business have said that technology today makes it much easier for consumers to get the beef products that they want, helping to make it easier for farmers to sell their products with convenience. This is also helping to give consumers an idea of where their food is coming from. Since we can order pretty much anything these days on a subscription service, why not our meat as well?

Getting away from GMO fed meat and CAFO/feedlot beef, pork and chicken is a huge goal of ours. It is amazing the way commercialization is spreading the grassfed movement. I just hope it doesn't degrade the quality like what happened with the "organic" label.

Will also post to other groups. Let's raise that 1% level so people have more options for better health. Steem on! @vickiebarker
