I watched that presentation yesterday and I thought it was pretty bad. Many badly made-up points and pseudo-historical references, some of them false. Still, the main message of that talk was that Sweden might attempt a digital national currency in a few years from now. That was interesting and intriguing.

However, I hated how the speaker posed that Sweden “was a pioneer” in this field and is going to be “the first nation in the world” to launch its national currency in digital form. That self-aggrandising was making me sick to my stomach. Stupid nationalistic boasting aside, I think that a country like South Korea or Singapore – or even the UK or the Netherlands – will beat Sweden to the punch.

Yes, that is right. But they were the first at the state level have recognized the benefits of digital currency. It's like a step up, I think we will soon expect even more interesting and intriguing project presentations based on blockchain technology.

I too am absolutely confident that we will. Exciting times ahead!
