Film & TV Friday: Oh Captain My Captain
Has Chris Evans shot his last scenes as Captain America? No one knows, but let's talk about it anyway. This is Film & TV Friday.
News
Farewell to Captain America?
So it has been widely reported that Chris Evans has shot his last scenes - not including reshoots - for the fourth Avengers film (the sequel to the one that's coming soon), the last film in his contract, and has said “You want to get off the train before they push you off.” People have interpreted this to mean he unequivocally won't be back after that. I'm not so sure. It's certainly possible. And they already have Bucky and Falcon, who have both carried the shield in the comics. But... if the right idea, right script, right director, right brinks truck of money comes along? Things change.
Still, if he IS done, let us take a moment to appreciate how great he's been in the role, and how great an avatar for the values of the character he has been off screen. He has shown unflagging decency, and is a delight on social media. He's the Captain American we needed, and is one of many examples to how great a job Marvel has done casting their films.
Spring (tv) Is Here
When you scroll down to the TV premieres section, you'll find 15 new and returning shows. We're in the midst spring premiere season, which has become nearly as big and significant as the fall season.

That's a lot of wide releases, but if you know anything about me, you know I'm here for exactly one of them. My love for the first Pacific Rim film is the love of someone who has been waiting for that film since he was nine, and never knew it. And, sure, reviews of the new one have been mixed to say the least. But it's probably still way better than any of the Transformers films.

From new sitcoms to really, really, really old sitcoms, from horror on a boat to a mermaid come to land, from a show about the music business to a show about the podcast business, this week has a glut of new and returning stuff. As I wrote above, spring premiere season is most definitely here.
Trailers
Interesting bunch this week. Let's take a look.
Can You Ever Forgive Me?
Based on the true story of author Lee Israel's short career as a forger and a thief, this looks mostly interesting because Melissa McCarthy is great.
Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado
Sicario - Emily Blunt = This Movie, I guess?
Tag
Another film based on a true story, a really odd one about a group of adults who have kept a game of tag running for 23 years.
The Titan
Stop trying to make Sam Worthington happen.
Under The Silver Lake
Color me intrigued. This will either be super fun or an absolute mess.
The Spy Who Dumped Me Trailer
Not entirely sure if this is a second rate Spy (I loved Spy) or something better, but I love the leads, and
Action Point
I am sure there is an audience for this. I am not that audience.
Terminal
Margot Robbie and Simon Pegg in a movie that seems bonkers? I am intrigued!
Deadpool
And, finally, for the trailer some of you have possibly been waiting for. This could be great. This could be a complete car crash of a movie. But it'll be a wild ride. I'm here for it.
What looks good to you?

I will absolutely join you in appreciate Chris Evans for what he brought to the Captain America role. With the pool of superheros being rapidly diluted, I hold him in the highest esteem for his accurate and nuanced portrayal of a pretty damn important character. 🔥
