Engagement is the key to building any social network. The stats presented in a post by @abh12345 (The 201 most prolific commentators on the Steem Blockchain (2018)) show just how little engagement there really is here on steemit by the humans. If there was a lot of communication, 1/2 of all the top 50 humans on the list wouldn't be in Asher's League of Excellence #aloe.
Think about that for a minute.
One guy has 1/2 of the top "engagers" coming to his post every week. You now have one group which is the group to be in if you want to know the future connectors and influencers. The bottom line is that the people that engage the most will have the most real relationships over time, and that is a factor that makes Asher's League of Excellence hands down the best group to join if you want to meet other leaders.

Steemit Comment Challenge
Another place that where engagement is key is @danielsaori's Steemit Comment Challenge #steemitcommentchallenge. In this weekly contest, players must visit another post selected as the "post to review" and the player must interact in both the "post to review" and on the Comment Challenge post as well. What makes this great is the sheer amount of visits and comments this post receives every week!

Dave is the man. "Prolific" is a great word to describe his commenting. I haven't looked at his comment feed, but I'm halfway convinced that he's one of 3 triplets who all take overlapping shifts on the computer so the account is always posting. They just keep talking to new people and if they don't remember making the comment, leave it for the brother who did. That way they can maximize their reach. It's ingenious! Now I just need to come up with two more identical siblings to help me with this. Good work, Daves!

I agree, it is not so much the steem or the money or the power, it's all about meeting and making new friends even when competing, like in IFC, did you see the new art, I was blown away by what @yeszuzia drew for me because @kryptocek asked. One day, I hope to be able to get int the 500 votes and comments that dave does.

Do you know anything about Steemconnect? i dont seem to be able to use it
I know a little... what is happening to you on sinlg?
One thing you might be missing is that in different apps it will ask for different "keys"... So make sure that you read what "keys" they are asking for... (usually it is either the "posting key" or the "active key") ... and btw, for different apps it will switch so if you autosave your password then you just need to get the right key. I have that happen all the time.
If its anything else, just let me know and I'll try to find you someone that knows about it!

and when i tried using active key it says cannot log in... it makes you wonder
I understand... I am very leery of everything, but steemconnect is not one of them... Be sure to see which one steemconnect is asking for, sometimes they want the active key, sometimes the posting key.
I suggest you never give out your owners key or the password

You are absolutely correct with this, you have to make connections in order to be successful here. Engage with other people, make friends, get contain in any steemit community and initiatives, that's the most effective ways and I can testify to that. No other secrets involve!
