Bonus Tip for Success

No Tag Abuse

When you post your articles, you add tags that are relevant to topic you're writing on. There are two tags that you need to given special attention. The following two tags are curated:

  • introduceyourself
  • photography

introduceyourself

is a tag specifically for introduction. For most people, it's their first post. Some choose to wait and post their introduction later. However, be aware, you're only allowed to use the tag ONCE.

The purpose of the "introduceyourself" tag is so we can meet people who are new to the platform. You don't need to introduce yourself multiple times. If you use the tag more than once @steemcleaners considers it abuse, and could flag your post. Save yourself the pain of getting flagged, and let the other newbies get a chance to say hello.

Only use it once.

photography

is a tag specifically for photographs. The photography tag is for showcasing the work of the many talented visual artists on Steemit. If you are posting stock images or images that aren't your own, you dilute the value of the tag. If you improperly post using the photography tag, you can (you guessed it) get flagged by @steemcleaners.

Play Nice

This was a short post, but valuable. If you're making either of these mistakes, stop now! You can succeed without gimmicks like abusing tags. At best it will get you a few more views, but it could cost your reputation. And without your reputation, it will be even harder to get views and followers.

What gimmicky behavior drives you crazy?

Sort:

One thing that drives me crazy is when other people copy and paste someone elses comment. I can't stand that. It's not that hard to post something original.

Agreed. Most people should be able to find something original to say if they actually read the article. Tag abuse is just lazy. If you write good articles, eventually you'll get noticed.
Thanks for stopping by, Earl. :)

Do you know how many tags you can use on steepshot? I flagged someone yesterday, maybe I was in the wrong but the person had 11 tags.

You're allowed to flag anyone for anything you want. If you don't like the color photo they used...you can flag.
Steepshot does not have a limit (that I've heard of) on the number of tags. It's strange that Steemit doesn't just cut it down to the first 5 as that's how many are allowed here. Personally, I find more than 5 tags to be obnoxious and it looks spammy to me. Just my opinion. I don't really flag, so probably wouldn't for that either, but I also probably wouldn't follow that sort of thing.

It was a new person and it popped up, I don't flag either but you post million tags I will flag it. It even looked like a spam account.
