Fun Family Weekend, Doesnt get any better than that! :D

in #newbieresteemday7 years ago (edited)

Well my friends, Its Monday again! After spending most the weekend outside getting some yard work and planting done, the inside is a disaster zone! How in the hell does that happen? Your outside but the inside is still a mess? Oy! While I need to get all those wonderful (sarcasm) chores done, I figure I have time for a post! Itll still be a mess when Im done... (At what age is it okay to make your kiddo start sweeping, mopping and doing laundry?! Not yet? Oooookay....)

On Friday afternoon, Sophie and I started our weekend off with a lovely walk through the backyard, on a search for some treasures! She found a Mickey Mouse that she had lost weeks ago, a shovel, which came in good use after I broke mine digging holes in the rain (more on that later), and mommy found these beauties...

After taking a picture or 12, hey it takes work to get that perfect shot ;), we picked them and made our wishes! Im pretty sure she wished for ice cream, and I wished for a beautiful Saturday! Both came true!

On Saturday, there was a slight chance of rain throughout the day but it stayed warm and cloudy with a nice breeze. We went and had some delish barbacoa tacos for lunch. Then headed to Home Depot to pick up 30, yes you read that right, 30 bags of soil! Time for yard work! Sophie helped daddy mow the front yard....

Oh boy, was that fun! I filled at least 10 bags planters with soil for Grandma. Then we raked and bagged and chopped, oh my! Filled the whole trailer!

While doing this, it started to sprinkle a bit. It felt soo nice though, the cold rain hitting our warm bodies was really a treat! So we kept on going! We planted 4 fruit trees, in the rain! By the time we made it to the last two trees, it was pouring! Theres was lightening and thunder, the whole shebang! We rushed to get the last two in and not get electrocuted. By the time we finished we were soaking wet, from head to toe, dripping wet! The fruit from our labors BETTER be big!

It was a blast though, definitely memories in the making! We will remember that day for years to come. Every plum or peach we pick will be a reminder of that fun!

We finished off the night with a very yummy St. Pattys Day dinner, that @mamajeani had prepared (If you want to check it out, Taste of Ireland for St. Patricks Day ). Then it was sleepy time for our super sore bodies! Planting in the pouring down rain is really a work out!

Sunday was a day of rest and relaxation! We watched movies and ate popcorn. Made a wonderful meal! I just kind of winged it and it came out soo good! Will have to do a step by step next time to share with you all. You can check it out here, Oven BBQ Country Style Boneless Pork Ribs.

Got one final picture...

Nature is a beautiful thing, friends!

Taco says good day, Steemians! Time to jump on these chores! Until next time,

Peace, love and fruit trees!

Sounds like a great weekend! I can’t wait to start planting our family garden...I love getting outside with the kids and just enjoying nature together! What kind of fruit trees did you plant and have you planted trees before? We usually do tomatoes and cucumbers...I don’t know if I have the patience to wait on a tree to start producing! Lol. Nice pictures!

LOL, Yea we will see how my patience goes with these!

We planted 2 peach and 2 plum. We have 2 more to plant and still need to plant the blueberries and raspberries plants. In the cloth planters in between the trees, there are blackberries! Im really hoping they do well. We have never done any trees, first year for those. We also have tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, radishes, beans, peas, strawberries, grapes, potatoes, onions and all kinds of herbs planted this year. Fingers crossed for a good turn out this year!

Thanks for stopping by! :)

My 2.5 year old helps me sweep around the house, I have been working with her on a Montessori house primary class curriculum. There are all kinds of mini activities in the book to help develop life skills like sweeping, sponging, pouring dry things, pouring liquids, hand washing, table washing, cutting a banana, nature walks and planting projects.

Be careful with the goats around your fruit trees.. they might girdle them :(

Oh nice! Ill have to look that book up! We have her pretty good at picking up one mess before she moves on to make the next mess but it still adds up somehow! I love teaching her new stuff... her surprise of being able to do it is priceless!

Oh yes... we tried to plant some last year in the back yard. A lady we know brought 3 over and without thinking about it, we planted them. It didnt take long for them to have all leaves gone and not much longer after that to have the whole trees completely grounded. Damn goats! This year we were a little smarter about the whole ordeal and planted them in the front yard!

a both fun and productive weekend :)
love the weather you have, we have snow and ice still here :/

Im really enjoying it! Where are you located? Hopefully the snow and ice leaves soon so you can get some beautiful outside time too! That damned groundhog ruined it for a lot of people this year! ;)

hahaha, im in Denmark (North Europe) guessing we will have frosty weather for a couple more weeks at least.

haha I feel you on the wonders of how the inside becomes a disaster zone - while everyone's been out?! lol

Right!! Like, how?! Damned little gnomes!

Great post @smylie2005. Glad you had a lovely weekend. They're the best aren't they? 😊

i was lucky enough to have one too. it was my son's 21st so we had big celebrations.

Awesome! Happy birthday to your son!

Sounds like so much fun haha, planting trees in the rain does not sound so bad! I only wish I could be planting things outside right now.

I wonder, are you using any extra leaves for mulch? I can never ever have enough leaves for my garden haha.

Thanks for sharing!

It was fine, great even... until it started lightening! LOL I got a little worried then!

You know, I hadnt thought about using the leaves for mulch. I shouldve though with as much as I raked! My pore arms still hurt! LOL

You really had a great weekend. Lovely

It really was a great one! Thank you for stopping by and reading!
