Yesterday I was notified by @luanne of a post on steemit by a woman with three beautiful children that were made homeless by our "child protection services". When you read the post and see her story you will understand why @luanne brought it to my attention. It is infuriating and heart-breaking at the same time.

I won't retell @hickorymack's story as she tells it better than I ever could, but because @luanne asked if we #newbieresteemday initiative could do anything for her I thought I'd give it a try. So here are my thoughts on how to get started.

Potential to be a good steemian and earn enough to change her life (and her 3 beautiful children)!

First, she shows great potential as a "newbie" because she naturally knows how to tell a story. So I think our group could be very helpful in teaching and mentoring and basically guiding her quickly so that she can start to become a regular here to earn her own money. As I know we have people like @goldendawne that can help her improve here blog and posts, I also thing there are many others that would jump at the chance to really take an interest in her and help her development here.

She needs a smart phone to stay connected to us

But in order to do this, we will have to communicate with her and she doesn't have a useful smartphone and it takes her hours to get to a library. She also has 3 adorable children and a job that she is dealing with, so if we can improve her connection to us it could really make a difference.

I am thinking that if anyone has a used but working smartphone that they don't need, we could have it sent to her and then connect to to a straight-talk plan through Walmart (no need for credit check). I don't think it has to be fancy or the latest version, but it should be good enough that she can use steemit on it and make posts and communicate with us.

So if you have an extra smart-phone and would like to donate it to her please either contact her directly or let me know and I will do it.

Once she has a phone, then we can focus on getting her service on a 30-day basis. In the beginning we can have people contribute by "passing the hat" for the $45 a month, but in the future we can help here with our upvotes and helping here to earn on her own posts and on her own accord. Teach a man to fish and he can feed himself forever ;)

So if you have an interest in helping to develop a newbie with amazing potential, and a clear need that is urgent and needs attention, then please let me know and we can adopt her into our community.

I have faith in our people and in steemit as a whole

I have a feeling that we will have people here at #newbieresteemday and on steemit as a whole that will jump at the opportunity to help this family in crisis. It is fixable and I believe we can work with her to do so. I have come to know the quality of so many here that I have no doubts that we can pitch in in our own ways to help someone grow here. That's what our mission is really all about!

So I am asking if you have a smartphone to spare because I am positive that we can help her with the monthly plan to keep her connected and have her learn the wonders that we all feel here on steemit.
