HISTORY OF INTERNET BROWSER DEVELOPMENT: NETBOX BROWSER, YOUR BAY WINDOW TO THE WORLD
The Internet is generally a gigantic network connecting millions of computers together globally, forming a network in which a computer can communicate with each other, utilizing the so-called Internet Protocol. It is different but intimately interconnected with The World Wide Web, or putting it simply The Web. The later is an information sharing system where documents and other web resources are identified and accessed by Uniform Resource Identifiers or commonly Uniform Resource Locators, URLs. The Web is built atop the Internet The Web resources is accessed by users by the all too known web browser, one of the most important and ubiquitous apps around.
The trinity of the Internet, The Web and the web browser has changed the world as we know it, right from the mid eighties till now. This trinity is basically how we communicate with our world. Think of the Internet as the river, the current as the Web and the browser as the gourd with which to fetch the water.
Right, so how now the web browser?
The web browser narrative commenced years ago with the Hyperlink Applications. This is effectively a text or image that links to another file or object and thus allow web pages to connect to other web pages.
Next came WorldWideWeb in the nineties, which was developed with its own server, it was later renamed Nexus. WorldWideWeb was developed by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN. Others, in 1993, were quickly developed, like Mosaic which was very popular and easy to utilize, with more navigational elements on the new browser. Often hailed as the first 'modern' browser, Mosaic was credited to Marc Andreessen and Jim Clark. Just like WorldWideWeb, Mosaic was later renamed to Netscape. The advent of Microsoft led to Internet Explorer happening, which was a major Netscape competitor. Opera, Safari(an Apple itinerary), Mozilla's Firefox, and subsequently Google's Chrome all joined the fray at subsequent periods, with a heated and intense browser war dogging and pushing the development of browsers with the axiom that the modern browser can perform almost all tasks, from surfing pages, collecting and collating data, to streaming content like music and movies, and even games. Google Chrome currently has the major global market share with Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari close behind.
THE BROWSER WARS
The rapid rise in Internet usage and knowledge inadvertently gave rise to the well known browser wars. The initial combatants was Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer and where the former was previously the market leader. Subsequently after the release of the third itinerary of Explorer, which was the Windows default browser, Navigator was relegated.
Safari took over in the mid 2000 after Apple joined the fray and Macs came with the browser,out of the box.
Then came Firefox in 2004, after acquiring the now open-sourced Netscape code, this gave Internet Explorer a run for their money.
Finally, 2008 came with the advent of Google Chrome which came with the much needed bells and whistles of the modern browser. These browsers utilized CSS and HTMLs.
So how does Netbox.Global fit into all this madness?
