Under the sharp cliffs of the Western Serbia, near the town of Prijepolje, in the valley of Mileševka river…

…since 13th Century there stood beautiful Mileševa Monastery, a home of “White Angel”, most famous detail of a fresco painting named “Myrrh-bearers on Christ’s Grave”, one of the finest examples of the Serbian and European medieval art, painted by unknown artist…

Mileševa was founded in 1219, by prince Vladislav, the second son of King Stefan the First-Crowned and the grandson of Stefan Nemanja, with the intention to be his burial church. At the time, a wooden bridge was built across the Mileševka river…

Unfortunately, the original bridge could not withstand numerous conquering armies that ravaged Balkans during the centuries. As of 1999, by the efforts of professor Milan Gojković, public utility companies and with the help of Serbian state, the bridge was restored as an exact replica of the original medieval bridge.

I truly love that they have taken the time to replicate the bridge, to add to the Historical value of the site. It is to their credit that they keep so much of their past in good condition for the next generation to see history in person.
