CentralMountainCaribou.jpg

We spent a couple of nights winter camping in the hope of tracking down some Central Mountain Caribou (an ecotype of Rangifer tarandus caribou). After seeing fresh footprints in the snow the day before we finally located some of these amazing animals on the morning we were due to head home. Mountain Caribou of Northern BC have been in a steep decline since the 1990’s. Their decline is a result of direct habitat loss along with increased predation associated with ecosystem change from land alteration. While they are listed as threatened federally in Canada the Federal Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) has recommended that mountain caribou be listed as endangered. This particular herd was counted via aerial survey at 120 in 2007 and had dropped to 45 by 2012. It seems the implementation of a caribou management plan in 2013 has potentially stabilised the population; however there has yet to be any significant increase with the herd being counted at 50 in 2015. I really like the mood in this photo and how it makes the viewer feel like she/he is there. You almost expect the Caribou to just walk in front of you. Also like the simplicity, composition, and chromatic.

Here is a Bison I found in Yellowstone National Park. This guy was not fazed by my presence, I could tell he was used to a lot of human traffic near him. I only had a wide angle lens on me at the time so I had to creep up pretty close to get this capture.

What a stunning animal! It must have been interesting to be so close to it. I love how you can see the details and different textures.

I captured these white tulips in Keukenhof, a large flower garden in the Netherlands. There are over 3000 varieties of tulips, with many different colors too. White tulips are popular as wedding bouquets, as they symbolize purity, innocence and respect.

Beautiful photo of tulips, simple and elegant!

A nice specimen of barn owl in full flight.

Very cool shot! (Could you double-check the link, please?)
I love the color contrast and the expression! Nice movement here too..

Thanks, you can check now.

Last summer we did a roadtrip through the West of USA. When driving through a remote area, part of a reserve, in New Mexico, we saw these animals. At first we thought it was a kind of deer. When I investigated later, I understood these are a kind of antilope, named pronghorn.
They were very beautiful and it's amazing to see these in the wild.

That's a cool looking antelope. Reminds me a little bit of those weird Saiga Antelope.

Thanks, yes there are some weird looking animals but it adds to the beauty of nature

Lovely shot of a beautiful animal. So cool that you got to see it and photograph it!

I took this photo at the Toowoomba Carnival Of Flowers. Poppies are one of my favorite flowers and the sun just happened to be in the right position to take some photos of all their natural beauty.

The little hairs on their stems... and the shadows 👍🏼 Great image!

Thank you!! : )
That's kind of you to say!

Lovely take on poppies! Love the lighting and chromatic. Nice angle and composition too, and what a treat to see the stamens through the petals!

Yes : ) Thank you!! You picked out all the lovely details that I love about this picture! I really was just in the right place at the right time!! The sun can be such a pest at times to work with but when you get the opportunity to make it work for you, it's good but its rare! : )

Thanks for directly replying to the winners, the reminder is greatly appreciated :)

I found this cute baby Macaque and his Mother near a temple in the south of Thailand. It's common to find these monkeys at many temples throughout southeast Asia. Although their natural habitat is the jungle, they're extremely adaptable animals and many groups have moved into urban areas. They're normally cheeky little monkeys, but this one wasn't feeling so brave and needed comforting from his Mum. I guess he didn't like the look of the hairless ape taking his photo.

Absolutely adorable photograph and so well composed! I need not say more. :D

Today I present to you a photograph of a male marine iguana that I managed to capture with a very close shot. The marine iguana was in its natural environment in the town of Santa Cruz in the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador. It was very impressive because I managed to do enough lying down on the sand and the iguana did not fear me, so I could make this incredible shot. Hope you like.

Wow! Look at this guy 😄 he looks like he’s lived and learned a whole heap!

Cool close-up of the iguana! It's nice to see the intricate textures, and look at that face expression!
