Check out my Bushcrafting T-shirt Design - See how you can monetize on your creativity too!
I started creating some t-shirts on redbubble.com -- Pretty cool opportunity for the artist and even non-artist types to create their own shirt designs and put them up for sale. But it's more than just shirt designs, you can design for pants, dresses, phone cases, pillows, clocks, banners and more.
Here's one of my first designs!
Don't be shy! Buy one of my Bushcrafting T-shirt's at redbubble.com!
"But WizardofCheese", you say, "How can I get my artwork on t-shirts and sell them like you?". Fear not fellow Steemitian, I will teach you to fish. Metaphorically of course. Unless you came to my house then I really could teach you how to fish if you wanted to learn. I digress...
Steps for Selling Your Artwork on RedBubble.com
Go to redbubble.com and signup. Once signed up you can create your biography information and setup how you would like to accept payment for products sold. I chose PayPal for mine.
Fire up your favorite graphic application - Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDraw, GIMP, MS Paint and start designing.
Actually, it's better to have an idea of what you want to create before you fire up the application. This way you stay focused on the design and not get squirrel syndrome.
Additionally, it might benefit you to start thinking about creating a "Collection" of designs that have to do with a similar subject matter.
When you are done creating save your artwork as a JPG or PNG. PNG allows you to have transparent backgrounds which is usually a good thing for designs that go one products.
Go back into redbubble.com and click on "Add new work" via the User Account menu. Here you will drag and drop your artwork into the handy product builder.
Once your art is uploaded you will be able to see it on a number of available products. For each of these product previews you can go in and edit the artwork size, positioning, background colors.
If your work doesn't look great on a particular product you can make adjustments in your graphic application then re-upload the image OR you can create a modified graphic of the same design specifically for the product and upload it per the product's edit screen.
When you are done enabling the products you would like to sell, you have to create a title and description for your product pages. Additionally, you will enter a few "hashtags" which appears to help when people are searching for a design in a particular category.
You can choose to sell your design on all of the products if you want. But if there are products you don't think your design works well on be sure to disable them.
There are a few more checks you need to click on as your scroll down the product screen and then you can finally save your work.
The only thing left for you to do is promote your products to get more eyes on them then sit back and collect the money!
For the past few nights I've been firing up Illustrator and I start toying with design ideas. When I create one I'm excited about I move the art work up to redbubble.com, setup which types of products I would like my design to appear on and submit it. It's really that easy.
Let me know if you use redbubble.com or similar service!
