Crane Fly

Crane Fly

I found this Crane Fly on my neighbor's door.

Crane flies are mistaken for large mosquitoes and thankfully, they do not bite. As adults, they have six long fragile legs but this one is missing a leg.

The tan or gray larvae are short and plump, measuring approximately 1/2" to 1" and are worm-like because they do not have legs. They eat organic substances and roots, and become adults in approximately one month. Adult crane flies don't eat at all because they only live a few days; to mate and lay eggs.

Thanks for looking!

Well there goes the thing I heard ages ago
that these were mosquito eaters! lol
Nice to learn the name, never thought of
them as a fly!

They also look a lot like those skeeter
bugs on top of still water along creeks.
Ah creeks, those are so much fun! :-)

💕

I used to be around creeks a very, very long time ago when I was a child and we had so much fun. Thanks for bringing back those fond memories. : )

Most welcome :-)
Skipping stones, building forts, swimming and
wading, finding new places around the bends.
Oh and the rocks lol Lots of good mems ❤

I wondered what these were. Thanks

Glad I could help. : )
