Brown Dragonfly (PPW1)

Here is another "leftover" from my nature series. I found this dragonfly long after I posted the letter "D." I sure was surprised to find this dragonfly on a cold, windy day on my sidewalk at the side of the house. Every time I try to identify this one I say that it must be the Brown Hawker, but my research tells me that brown hawkers are only found in Europe.

I live on the east coast of the U.S. so I looked up the dragonflies that live on the east coast. It is not the Eastern Amberwing even though mine has amber wings, because that one has a short tail with stripes. It is not the Orange Meadowhawk even though they wander away from water and have been spotted in fields, because the orange meadowhawk has a bright orange body with black wings.

And it is not the Wandering Glider because they are very colorful and don't have amber wings.

This is why I think it is a Brown Hawker dragonfly. They can be found from June through September. I found mine on October 17th; close enough. It is a common dragonfly and can be found flying late into the evening. I found mine at 4:30 P.M. They can be found in the woodlands; I don't live near the water. Brown Hawkers have an entirely brown body and they have bronze wings. Just like mine.

And Brown Hawkers have the appearance of having a waist; just like mine.
