The new froglet tank was supposed to be ready by the end of today but thanks to the scale, there was a bit of a setback. I used 15 ml of Seachem Replenish on the 8.6 gallons of water in the froglet tank and raised the general hardness to match the 251 ppm of the current hardness in the froglet holding tank. The Replenish does not affect the carbonate hardness, however, which meant that I had to continue adding baking soda as well. Normally this shouldn't be an issues, however, the scale's lack of accuracy has finally come back to bite me. After adding 5 grams, the carbonate hardness was 107 ppm, after adding another 3 grams, the carbonate hardness rose to 152 ppm. I then tried adding 1 more gram of baking soda to equalize with the carbonate hardness of the holding tank.

Apparently, the scale decided that mass is merely a suggestion and refused to show a change from 0 grams to 1 gram despite loading the scale with an amount that was clearly more than 1 gram. Ultimately, I ended up putting too much baking soda in and it skyrocketed the tank beyond the proper level to the point that I had to take half of the water out of the tank and place it into a bucket in order to soften the water carbonate hardness back to 152 ppm. I then had to add another 8 ml of Replenish to bring the general hardness back to where it was desired. By the time that mess was sorted, I had already ate up my free time before changing the water in both the froglet holding and tadpole tanks. Once all of that was finished, it was too late to start performing maintenance on both the filters. The plan is to swap two of the sponges to smaller filter, one canister of biological media to jump start the biofilter, and up to two gallons of water from the main tank once the filter fills up using water from the froglet tank. Once the filters are all set, the new froglet tank will be ready to house all ten of the current froglets, along with the two I have to transfer out of the tadpole tank tomorrow.
