Can You See What is Odd About This Bird?

in #nature7 years ago

Can you see what is odd about this bird? It's head seems huge. When I first spotted it, I could not immediately identify it even though its is a common bird (Crescent Honeyeater). Then it dawned on me what was so odd looking. Can you see it?

It took me a minute to notice it is missing it's tail. It was a happy wee thing singing away from the tree tops and could fly well too. If it could talk I'm sure it would have a good story to tell :-)

This reminded me of my grandma! She use to tell me that if I could sneak up on a bird and sprinkle salt on its tail, the tail would fall off. Of course I tried, and I'm sure she was well entertained watching. I had totally forgotten about that! Thank you {:o)

That's funny! I'm totally doing this to my grandkids...when that time comes.

:-) That was going around when I was a kid (which was a long time ago :-)

Perfect shot !

Does look funny.

You're right. Her head seems very big. But she is a beautiful bird.

It is indeed a beautiful bird. Even more so with its tail :-)

Yes, you are right :D

Hmmm. The bird might have botfly larvae under the skin around the head. The other day, I caught a young catbird that just fledged and it had 5 of them on its head and neck. I removed them and let the bird be on its way.

I had to look up what a Bot fly was. Discovered there is a Human Bot Fly that parasitises us. Nastly little things! Thanks for your comment.

So, What did happen to the tail? Did it loose it or is it some rare tailess species? LOL

Yes its has lost it. No idea how. Close shave with a cat or a hawk perhaps.

What a pretty little bird!! And yes, I do see that its head looks awfully disproportioned! It's missing its tail?! googles bird Interesting. It does seem to be missing its tail! I wonder if it escaped its life! Narrowly getting caught by a predator or something.

May I ask, how do you format the bottom of your posts with the smaller images and post titles below?

Thanks!

Yes probably escaped from a cat or a hawk.

The formatting at the bottom of my posts is done in HTML using a table.
If you don't know HTML then here is a good starting point:

Oh thank you for your tip! I didn't even think about a table!! That's very helpful! Thank you!!
