Buff-tailed Bumblebee (Photos and Video)
Today I spotted my first bumblebee for the spring. It's the Buff-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) This European species turned up here in Tasmania around 25 years ago. In that short time it has spread throughout the Island and is now quite common. This will no doubt have negative effects on other native flora and fauna. Still, they are very cool looking bees and are always a pleasure to watch.
This quite large specimen will be a queen. This was on my apple trees this morning.
This is an older shot from last summer.

Nice to see you just starting to experience spring there whilst here in the UK we are well stuck in to autumn and less and less insects. With steemit I can see the seasons turn around the globe :)
