A Tortoise Beetle (Two Macro Photos)
A lot of beetles have visited my moth light recently. This one is one of the Tortoise beetles which belong to the family Chrysomelidae and the genus Paropsis. It's name is P. tasmanica. There does not appear to be a common name for it so perhaps we can call it the Tasmanian Tortoise beetle as it seems to be mostly confined to Tasmania ( I did come across one apparent record on the Australian mainland).
I took the photos with a Canon 7D and Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens. I used some white paper towel as the background which made it easy to isolate the beetle later.
