The Denmark Strait Cataract... Biggest Waterfall On Planet EARTH !
Don't you just love that sound of water splashing to the ground while the air is cooled through all of the mist ? Wait till you see one of thee most greatest phenomenons !
Underwater waterfall.. ?
The waterfall is located between Greenland and Iceland in the Denmark Strait .
The waterfall is the largest in the world , even much larger than Niagara falls and Angel falls . This waterfall is 160 km wide (100 miles) . The water falls almost 3505 m (11 500 feet ) to the bottom of the ocean . The Denmark Strait Cataract has a flow rate of 5 million cubic meters ( 175 million cubic feet) . That is serious power from Mother Nature ! Not only the biggest waterfall , but also it's underwater !
How is this possible ?
Sea water is very dynamic . When sea water from different temperatures and densities mix , we end up with a phenomenon like this . Nobody can go look at this amazing waterfall because there is no overlook to watch from . Freezing cold water comes from the Greenland sea and mix with the slightly warmer water of the Irminger sea . On the break where the two seas meet , the water falls straight down to the bottom of the ocean . It's really one of my favourite phenomenons out there . I think people need to know about this beautiful phenomenon that Mother Nature has blessed us with .

It must be amazing! I've always thought that the Niagara was the biggest in the world. A shame I won't see this one because it's cold there, I don't like the cold.

Awesome. Flew near the Denmark Strait today and saw the location "out of place" on the flight map. Stumbled upon your post when reading into it. Ive seen pictures of the waterfall before, but never knew it was here.
