Eurasian hoopoe on the hunt
They are native to all Europe (Asia, North Africa and northern Sub-Saharan Africa too by the way), but I only saw it for the first time a couple of years ago in Portugal. They seem to be pretty common not only on the countryside fields, but on the green spots in the suburbs too.
This one was on a food hunt on a green lawn between the road and a kids playground. Not a quiet place at all. Even though they do seem to be spooked easily and wont come too close to humans they stay around.
I often see on outside our car park checking for bugs.
Wish I could catch and shoot one with the feathers on his head all up. Pretty impressible with the bright orange and black colours.
And off he goes...

Thank you.
Great photos! Beautiful bird!
There must also be udota in Poland.
As a child, I saw them in nature.
I was not lucky enough to photograph the udota in nature, like you :-)
I attach photos from the Internet: Photo of the madagascar hoopoe
Interesting looking bird with pretty long beak!
To reach all the yummies :)
I like the stripy wings too.

Want to have your post on the map too?
Another bird that is new to me. Hoopoe is cool.
It is very cool! And it eats all the bugs and larvae :P
We have them here in South Africa. I didn't know they were so widespread!
They must be everywhere, where bugs are. We are supposed to have them in Poland too, but I never seen them there.
Pretty cool looking bird, thanks for sharing your photos.
They are quite noisy too :)
The bird looks like a "monster" from a Pokemon or something ^-^
Btw, nice technically correct photo and if I can mention, as a student of informatic design and photo processing , learn postproduction in Photoshop... Your images will be nicer. You can reduce or increase brightness and millions of other stuff.
Cheers and have a good day! 💚
Ops... those were after slight changes in Photoshop already :p
They were a bit overexposed, but the more I tried to make them look better, the worse they looked. So I left them at this point.
Thank you! :)
Just reduce luminance to make it exposed well :) photos are great
That's a real beauty!
You just say that because it's orange :P
It's not orange, it's light brown 😜
