The destruction of Australian Marine Parks.

Australia has 44 National Marine Parks, used to protect our Marine resources from over fishing, and allow breeding grounds for vulnerable species.

Imagine if you National Parks on Land where suddenly opened up for Building and Mining, there would be no sense having these areas protected at all. Well, this is what the Australian Government is proposing for our Marine Park areas. Over 100,000,000 acres of Australian Marine Parks will be opened up for fishing, mining and pipeline construction.

38 of our 44 Marine Parks will be opened for commercial fishing, including areas of our Great Barrier Reef. This puts at risk our Tourism industry which earns 29 Billion a Year from our Marine Reserves. The government is acting in total disregard to our scientific research, and against the interests of Australians. The main benefit of lifting the restrictions on our Marine Parks will go to other countries and multinational fishing companies with no taxation paid in Australia. 16 of our Marine Parks will be completely wiped out, with no remaining sanctuary areas left at all.

What the Australian Government is proposing is partial and lowest levels of protection of vulnerable species, which goes completely against the results of all Scientific research into protection of habitats.

The draft management plan put forward by our government, is a threat to remove protection for our Australian Marine Eco Systems. Once again our Government sells out the Australian public for the benefit of Multinationals. The plan they offer, is an insult to all who have fought to develop and improve our Marine Parks over decades.

Our Marine Parks are set to opened for Mining, Pipeline construction and International trawling and longline fishing too. The Australian Government is set to reduce our Marine Park areas beyond all recognition.
