Daily Nature Fix: Pissing Mare Falls. (Original Photos)
Hello, friends. That's some name there, isn't it? "Pissing Mare Falls". No, I'm not making that up or being silly. It's the real name of a waterfall and it's the subject of tonight's Daily Nature Fix. It is located in Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland and we visited it in July.
^^^ The waterfall is found all the way towards the back side of the beautiful, picturesque West Brook Pond. I feel like "pond" is a silly name for it, by the way. "Ponds" are usually small bodies of water; but this thing is HUGE. Some 10 miles long. It was actually a fjord connected to the sea a millennia ago. It's landlocked now. Anyway, you can begin to see Pissing Mare Falls from this view. It's on the right side of the photo and is kinda hiding in the dark.
^^^There we go. A bit closer and a bit more exposed, you can see the waterfall. It's kind of a skinny waterfall, but still a real beauty. I love falls like this that come off a sheer cliff like that.
^^^ Aside from the funny name, Pissing Mare Falls boasts some serious numbers. From the point of the drop, to the point where it hits the water of the pond, the water falls nearly 1,200 feet, making it one of the tallest waterfalls in all of North America. That's a pretty serious claim to fame as there are thousands of waterfalls in Canada and the United States. The upper part of Pissing Mare, the free-fall portion, is around 800 feet tall alone. Pretty cool stuff!

Wow - now that is truly stunning! I have never been here, but from looking at the pictures I can really feel / imagine how epic it would be in real life! Looking at those cliff faces and crazy rock formations is just insane. I have luckily been to some fjord in New Zealand and this reminds me of some of the landscape! Love it!
