Is your GERD causing Bronchitis?
A couple of years ago I was continuously troubled by Bronchitis - spent an entire week in hospital getting IV antibiotics. The inflammation just would not go away, but I convinced the specialist that I was feeling better as I could not face another meal in that hospital - a highly reputable one I must add!
The food was giving me such indigestion and the coughing did not stop.
Little did I know then that it was the indigestion that was causing Bronchitis.
I can hear many asking how that possibly can be linked.
I never had flu nor any head cold, just a burning sore throat at night so could not understand this; I told the specialist but I don't think he heard me!
I was using massive amounts of corticosteroids - nebulising three times a day, using two Asthma pumps, having physiotherapy, and told that I now had uncontrolled Asthma.
I ended up seeing a pulmonologist who declared my lung function was actually very good for someone who gets Bronchitis so often, and this puzzled him!
My voice disappeared altogether; a tragedy for someone who also suffers from verbal diarrhea :)
So I was referred to the Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist who took great pleasure in pushing his probe camera into my nose and all the way back into my throat to see what was going on, the most uncomfortable sensation ever! Plus he made me look at my epiglottis, not a pretty sight; anyone remember the movie Innerspace?
He certainly had a sense of humour and told me that I only had a fungal infection from all the corticosteroids, but have one big problem.
Of course I was alarmed thinking he saw something dreadful - but he looked at me with a straight face and said - you talk too much!
What a relief!
My voice came back after a long while, even hubby had missed my chattering!
So it was back to the pulmonologist and when I told him, again, that the choking/ coughing got worse after eating, especially certain foods like my favourite chocolate, he suspected GERD or acid reflux as people commonly refer to it.
What Is Gastroesophageal Reflux?
Gastroesophageal refers to the stomach and esophagus. Reflux means to flow back or return. Therefore, gastroesophageal reflux is the return of the stomach's contents back up into the esophagus.
In normal digestion, the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) opens to allow food to pass into the stomach and closes to prevent food and acidic stomach juices from flowing back into the esophagus. Gastroesophageal reflux occurs when the LES is weak or relaxes inappropriately, allowing the stomach's contents to flow up into the esophagus.

A homeopath explained to me why all the mucus is produced in my upper airways after eating - our Oesophagus is not designed to handle stomach acids and the mucus is the body's way of trying to protect itself, quite amazing, but continuously having excess acids coming up causes inflammation in the respiratory system.
I had to take a tablet to prevent this, helped a little, then had to take a stronger dose. I tried staying away from acidic foods and started eating more alkaline foods, but the coughing and spluttering and clearing throat still happened after eating.
Then the young doctor I now see, recommended Siberian Pine Nut Oil, a natural product.
She did not tell me to stop my reflux medication - Omez - I stopped of my own accord and only took the oil - 10ml before each meal.
Natural products generally only start working after a while, but this worked from day one!
I'm on my third day and am super excited as I have not had any choking, coughing, spluttering or clearing throat episode, something that's been a daily occurrance for many years, this stuff really works!
So it's goodbye to antacids and many of the other natural remedies I've been using. Yes some help a little, like apple cider vinegar, bicarb, aloe vera gel etc etc, but none of them have been as effective as this magical oil!
Please do not ignore the symptoms of acid reflux as GERD is one of the factors that can lead to Oesophagus Cancer - heartburn that gets worse when lying down or bending over, or after eating a heavy meal - I used to wake up with a burning throat and would be choking, sometimes had chest pain as well.
And if you suspect your Bronchitis is possibly caused by GERD, try and get hold of Siberian Pine Nut Oil, it worked like nothing else I have tried!

That's astonishing, yet it sort of makes sense when you think about it. You're very lucky to have found an open-minded doctor.
For sure @natubat, I'm sticking with her! Still no discomfort, that stuff's amazing, thanks for your support :)

Thank you so much @naturalmedicine, appreciate your support, thanks for this useful tag!
Oh my @lizelle, this sounds dreadful! I have heard about reflux and that is is so painful. To know this pine-oil will work is wonderful. Keep us in the loop, would love to know it works long term! Be well!
Thank you @birdsinparadise, working like a bomb so far! My doctor told me her Mom was using it very successfully, she's not even taking it regularly these days and is not troubled by reflux any longer!
My nephew is a doctor and told me they were taught medication is the chemical way or no way! But he has an open mind, will tell him about it too!
I'm so thankful my doctor is open to natural medicine!
I know, the "chemical way" is not always the way. Finding a doc who is open to natural medicines is wonderful but they get paid by pharmaceuticals ....sad right? Glad you have a doctor who is open minded. Take care friend!
That makes perfect sense , put a little oil in the pipes and the food will slide down easier. Genius, I'd say.
Thanks for your support mr Papper, apparently this oil contains a substance that aids digestion as well, but I also think the oil must protect the oesophagus lining as I have zero discomfort now. My doctor tells me her Mom is hardly taking it these days, problem seems to be gone!
It sounds promising, once the inflammation goes away I am sure the healing can start taking place so I imagine at some point it will heal. Our bodies are designed to heal themselves so as long as we haven't screwed them up totally it should happen.
So happy to hear that you found something that's working for you and that it started working immediately 😀
Thanks @jusipassetti, this stuff is excellent! I keep on expecting to get that throat and chest irritation but there's nothing, no coughing and spluttering, such a pleasure! And I still have not taken any Omez!
That is amazing news @lizelle. I'm sure you're very happy about it.
That I am for sure, not many medical doctors will recommend natural products so I'm sticking with this little lady doctor:)
@lizelle a great post and glad the oil is of a help to you. I have a severe phlegm problem and should maybe also try the oil. Is it available anywhere in the Overberg? Blessings!
I got mine at Dischem (they keep it in the fridge section), I do hope you manage to get it. Try and see if the phlegm gets worse after eating, especially sugary or spicy foods. If it does, it very likely is acid reflux. In the meanwhile, try simple remedies like bicarb - about half to one teaspoonful stirred into lukewarm water, tastes awful but does bring relief. Apple cider vinegar also helps but nothing beats this oil, quite pricey (R300 for a 250ml bottle) but worth every cent.
Thank you for the tip and we will have a look at Dischem in Somerset West. 300 bucks is a bit pricey for us, but maybe they have something smaller. I already do Bicarb and tried Apple Cider vinegar but it didn't work too well. Will see what we can do! Blessings!
Actually many cases are seen every day, badly cured bronchitis that become frequent in our body, I am very fond of natural alternative medicine, as you should know here in Venezuela we lack everything, especially medicines, so we only have left go to the herbalists, I use the purple onion with pure honey, watercress shakes that help the reflux, I would like to try that oil that for what you say should not be missing in my medicine cabinet, happy that you feel better, also to ask as follows the friend? I'm staying with you, greetings @lizelle
It's sad that you don't have easy access to medicines but good to get to know the herbal/ natural alternatives! Thanks for your support :)
Excellent information, will buy some for my son who suffers with this exact problem, always good to go natural wherever possible @lizelle
I do hope it helps him @joanstewart, I'm still amazed at the effectiveness, just pricey initially but one can reduce the dosage and my doctor tells me her Mom hardly takes it these days and is fine! She's not even taking her tablets any more, neither have I for a week now & no coughing and spluttering :)
FOR TSE: (Winston is helping me type, so I'll try this again.) I have become such a believer in natural medicine that your experience is not a surprise at all. I get much better results in ways that I control without all the awful side effects of prescription drugs -- to say nothing of the expense. I'm so glad you found something that works. Good for you for trying something unusual.
I'm still amazed at the effectiveness of this oil, and like you say all prescription drugs have side effects so if I can avoid that I certainly will! I believe with natural medicine one at least gives your body the chance to heal itself whereas the chemical drugs merely suppress the symptoms, does not actually heal the condition! My doctor's Mom hardly takes this oil these days, her reflux seems to be gone!
