Although I have many musical memories before this time, it is while I was living in Germany, between 9 and 13 years old, that I started to "choose" the music that I wanted to listen to. Of course, that's where the trending songs come in and all the social conditioning that makes something likes us. Pop and rock were prevalent throughout the world and the German Democratic Republic (GDR) was not an exception. Unlike most of the rest of the world, where the English language predominated, there was an emphasis on supporting repertoire in German.

There were original repertoire groups and many cover groups. A lot of artists from other socialist countries struggled to enter the radio programming of the GDR, reason why many of them recorded German versions of their repertoire. I especially remember artists from Hungary (like Zsuzsa Koncz and Katy Kovacs) or from Poland, where the excellent Czesław Niemen came from.

In the pop there was a couple (couple in real life and in many duets) that besides singing, they were movie actors, for which they were the top stars: Frank Schöbel and Chris Doerk.

Another of the great stars of music, was also an actor, Manfred Krug, who was possibly the one who recorded more versions of songs that were successful in the United States and England.

These genres were imposed in all environments, including political groups such as the [Oktoberklub] (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oktoberklub) and the Political Song Festivals, which were held annually in Berlin.

Festivals were also held and the main label of the GDR Amiga created series like the one that was entitled Hallo that brought together the best performers of these genres. prevailed in the taste of the young Germans of those times (including myself).

Obwohl ich viele musikalische Erinnerungen bevor dieser Zeit habe, habe ich, während ich in Deutschland lebte, im älter zwischen 9 und 13 Jahren, angefangen, die Musik zu "wählen", die ich hören wollte. Ich erinnere mich besonders an Künstler aus Ungarn (wie Zsuzsa Koncz und meine beliebteste Katy Kovacs oder aus Polen, wo der ausgezeichnete Czesław Niemen kam aus.

Im Pop gab es ein Paar (Paar im echten Leben und in vielen Duetten), die neben dem Singen Filmschauspieler waren, und auch darum sie die Topstars waren: Frank Schöbel und Chris Doerk.
