Music archeology for beginners
Web archeology: music
Good evening, I’m wizard23 and today I invite you to go with me on a little web expedition in search of rare (and not so rare) music. I always lacked something in my music library. The desire to constantly expand my audio horizons, at times, sent me to some strange places. I sincerely hope that during our expedition you’ll find a couple of albums that will give you an untried range of emotions, thoughts or experiences. Let’s start.
Destination 1: / mu /
A place where I began to explore the different facets and angles of the world’s music library. Actually this place is a subsection of the famous 4chan imageboard. People share their opinions about both new and long-established classical releases. But you should be careful when trying to communicate with locals , they are not very friendly to beginners, any people who do not share their musical preferences. The most valuable thing here in my opinion is music charts or guides for diving in a certain genre. People create collages from music albums and guess the personality of each other through a complex analysis (no) of musical preferences. Sometimes among such charts there are people with brain vibes surprisingly similar to yours, and among their albums you can find real treasures.

What's useful:
a huge variety of charts
Beware :
Everyone who lives there
Destination 2: weird youtube channels
There are a huge number of youtube channels, specializing in digging rare releases and uploading them. There is a community of people that usualy wake up in the morning with only one idea: to find more and more insane and strange musical works. They spend months on local music markets and forums. Often, enthusiasts do this not for the sake of money or subscribers, but simply out of a sincere love for the music they listen to. Their desire to share it is like a sacred mission for them. And I really respect this people. Unfortunately, because of the youtube algorythm, aimed at recommending only the most popular or most similar to your already-viewed content, it is difficult to find such places. But today I will help you to break your information bubble a little bit. This is only a small part of the music blogs hiding in the depths of the video platform.

What's useful:
non-commercial music releases, as well as local releases from the collections of channel owners
Beware :
The abundance of music and desire to click on all the album covers.
Destination 3: Collections on blogspots
I warn you, we are starting to go a little deeper. The amount of music hiding behind this line is so huge that it can cause an aneurysm or panic in especially sensitive individuals.
Exploring various YouTube channels, I found myself wondering about the source of it. As I wrote above, a certain amount of releases comes from musical markets and personal collections. But where is the main treasure chest of music? And the answer did not keep itself waiting. Abnormally huge personal collections of music nerds, people engaged in plunderphonics making and other interesting personalities.
I listed some of my favorite ones below. Themes and genres are very different. Actually, from this point genres and years of releases just don’t matter. Music from the distant past and music, which sounds like cacophony from the transcendent future, all merges into one huge and boundless ocean. In which you can immerse yourself for a couple of hours (or weeks). When you come back from it you are left with a few wonderful albums that are resonating with your inner mind perfectly.

What's useful:
merging with the "ocean" of music works like a good therapy or meditation of some kind
Beware:
The abundance of music and desire to click on all the albums covers x 1000
Final point: soulseek
Peer-to-peer network for sharing content between users. The client of this network is distributed free of charge on the official website. Long story short, soulseek is a place where users share their music collections. You can search simply by accessing users in folders, but there is a great risk of getting lost in terabytes of information and unknown names. If blogspots were the ocean, then soulseek is the whole galaxy of sound. It's much easier to just use the search bar for finding albums, which you’ve learned about, visiting places I described above.

I hope you’ve found something interesting during this little journey. I hope that the search of music will intrigue you, as it once fascinated me, and you will find this activity interesting and worth the time spent.
Good Luck.
