What Is Life Without Music To Accompany It!?steemCreated with Sketch.

My life continuum, with all of it's ages and stages and emotions, is inseparable from the soundtrack

My first conscious memory of music was when I was about 5 years old:
I'm sitting with my legs wrapped tightly around a Sit-And-Spin enjoying the centrifugal pull on my body as my hands turn the steering wheel as quickly as they can. Bob Marley's No Woman No Cry is spinning on my Dad's record player. You know that feeling you get when you're on a swing and you really get going and tip your head back and everything else fades away. Yeah that's the one. Perfection.

My second memory is when I was about 7:
A group of adults are gathered in our living room around our television. They are jovially watching what I now know to be "Stop Making Sense" a full length Talking Heads concert movie released in 1984. I remember listening to the songs while playing and thinking how odd everything looked on the screen especially the singers oversized suit jacket.

My childhood soundtrack was ever present and included a varied mix depending on the mood my father was in from Bob Marley to Cyndi Lauper to Jimmy Hendrix.

Old Enough To Go It On My Own

My first cassette tape that I personally owned was Kick by INXS released in 1987. I was around 11 when I got it along with a Sony Walkman and they were my go to when I needed my own time and space.
Violator by Depeche Mode came shortly after during my first summer away from home. I traded my INXS tape to my cousin for it and was imediately in love. The summer of my first crush. Played over and over and over.
That summer was also the summer of my first job at the "snack shack" in Graeagle California and from that point on with the ability to purchase my own music the world was my oyster.

I once had a friend who I wanted to share one of my favorite CD's with. I offered for him to borrow it (this was long before iPod's or digital music) and this friends reply was "Oh. Um. Yeah. I don't have a CD or cassette player or anything at home or in the car." I was dumbfounded mouth agape like What!... What even!.. How!? How can you live without music! I can tell you this wasn't something I just let slide I kept on him about it and eventually he got a boombox. Finally in biz!

What about you? What is your life soundtrack? Can you live without music?
