RE: An Experiment in Passivity -- Day 18 -- Duane "Skydog" Allman

in #music7 years ago

Glad I could alert you to Skydog, he really was a very special musician. The back story on the "Soul" version of "Hey Jude" was that Wilson Pickett was in Alabama to record, and they didn't have a song he liked. The Beatles had recently had a hit with "Hey Jude" and Skydog said let's cover that. Everybody laughed, but he wasn't kidding. So it was a spontaneous recording. It actually did well on radio -- and at that time it was unusual to have a R&B single with that kind of guitar on it -- much different that the Beatles original in just about every way.

BTW, your Black Seas drawing was really cool!

Thanks for the additional information @roused :-) Your knowledge on music history is really impressive! Some da you'll have to write books, or did you already?

I did write an eBook of fiction about music for Beatles fans. If you get bored this winter, I'll send you the link and you can read a short excerpt on Amazon ;-)

Very cool, I'd like to have a look for sure :-)
