Today's Lesson #18: A Demo of how Traditional Method Works in Reading Music

In this course, I purposely show you the traditional method of how students are taught when they read music.

The traditional method works but it is SLOW going because every time you try to identify the note, you need to read out the complete sentence.

In my many years of teaching students piano, I find that they often get stuck in the traditional method and then they get so scared and fearful of moving on to learn to read music.

I try to understand what their problems are and see in what ways I can make reading music faster and more fun for them so that in the process of learning, they will not get so frustrated that they quit.

This is how I came up with my unique method: Rosa's Note Attack Method.

You will learn this method in the next video.

In this video, I will show you how the traditional method works even though it is slow going.

For now, I want to let you know the TRADITIONAL method uses Acronyms to help you remember the order of notes.

The traditional way has its value in itself as everyone talks about it so this is why you need to know this method. This method does not work as good as mine because it requires your brain to memorize more things. When you need to memorize, things get slowed down.

Nevertheless it is still EFFECTIVE in using this method even though it is not the most EFFICIENT way.

Read Treble Clef Notes for the LINES:

To help you retain the letters in your memory, you can use this word cue:

Every

Good

Boy

Does

Fine

They correspond to E G B D F

Read Treble Clef Notes for the SPACES:

To help you retain the letters in your memory, you can use this word cue: FACE

• It spells the word FACE.

• So that is easy to remember.

• There is no need to use ACRONYMS because we don't want to stuff our brain with unnecessary information.

For the Bass Clef Notes - LINES:

To help you retain the letters in your memory, you can use this word cue:

Good

Boys

Do

Fine

Always

They correspond to G B D F A

For the Bass Clef Notes - SPACES:

To help you retain the letters in your memory, you can use this word cue:

All

Cars

Eat

Gas
