This 1 Technique Significantly Improved My Music Composition Skills
Hello steemians!
As a producer and singer/songwriter for a couple of years I've been trying to master the skills required to be able to produce, write and perform original songs without the help of anyone else, in other words, to be able to make entire compositions all by myself, I have always loved singing but I wanted to try something different to spice things up, as trap music and rap in general has become more and more popular around the globe I got curious and attempted to try it, if I could sing then I could rap, right?
Wrong.
Rapping is so hard!
But why is it hard?
Rapping seems to be a completely different technique; and I'm not talking about free-styling.
Apart from the amount of confidence you need to have in yourself when doing it and the fact that you have to memorize the, usually, much longer verse, it's just totally different from the way we sing to the way we rap.
The main difference I noticed was that I found it much harder to transmit my emotions, and since I'm not a native English speaker, the pronunciation of the words and my accent were much more evident and hard to dissimulate than when you're singing, at least for me.
As I practiced and re-recorded my vocals like a thousand times, I started to get the hang of it and I sort of found my own flow. I've also noticed I have better control of my singing and rhythm as well as faster song writing skills. I'm still worlds away from mastery but I will post below the result of my best attempt at rapping & singing together yet:
(The entire song was written, produced and performed by ooyah.)
