The Old Dog Asks: Would You Rather Have The Blues or go And See Them?

Combine a Fabulous Location, Top Notch Musicians With Free Entry And You've Got The Blues to Bop Festival in Lugano Switzerland!

I'd rather go and see the blues than have them and so last weekend I attended the Blues to Bop festival in Lugano. This was the 29th edition and once again we enjoyed an exciting evening of music.

Some Facts About The Lugano Blues to Bop Festival

  • This year 4 venues in Lugano were used. Piazza della Riforma, Piazza Dante, Piazza San Rocco and LAC
  • There was also a piazza in another spectacular nearby town. Piazza Grande Morcote
  • During the time of the festival the main road along the lake of Lugano is closed to traffic
  • The festival takes place over three days from Friday to Sunday at the end of August

Here Are Some Shots And Videos From This Year Festival

Look at the picking hand of this lead guitarist go! This and the other great pictures are by @peter-parker

In these first two pictures we saw a highly entertaining band which I did not see in the original program and so unfortunately I can't give their name here. The guitarist in the middle was playing a very unique cigar box guitar with a very special sound.

In this video you can get an idea of the sound of the Cigar Box guitar!

Slam Allen of The Chicago Blues Trio entertained us in Piazza Della Riforma. A great guitarist with a beautiful voice!

This video gives you a great feel for the spectacular Piazza Della Rifroma!

Here's the horn section from the band The Swing Leekers who played Jazz-Swing of the 1930's

The guitarist of  The  Swing Leekers was clearly enjoying performing for the crowd in Piazza San Rocco

Here you can get a taste for their swing style music as well as a look at Piazza San Rocco!

Will You attend Blues to Bop in 2018?

If you're planning to visit the beautiful city of Lugano Switzerland why not do so in late August so that you can attend the next addition of Blues to Bop! Who knows, considering that there are now at least 9 Steemers in the Lugano area perhaps a meet-up would be in order!

What About You?

  • Are there any music festivals in your area that you enjoy attending?
  • Will you be attending any in the near future
  • Have you ever visited Lugano?

I hope that you enjoyed this article about seeing the blues rather than having them!

Until next time,

Neither - I would rather play the blues!
I love all types of live music - all ages and all genres. Hubby and I go to at least one alternative / rock weekend festival every year. We got back from our favourite festival last Monday, and today I am really feeling the blues because I keep thinking "oh this time last week we were still there....."

Oh well, only another 51 weeks until next year's festival.

Great to read that you'd rather play them!

I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to play them very well - but I always find that what I lack in skill, I make up for with passion!

Bel festival e bella musica!

Ci starebbe! Se lo merita! Grande @peter-parker!👏🔝

I was there and I mainly focused on the Slam Allen performance. What to say, he was exceptional! He has this kind of gospel touch, with his amazing voice and a crazy load of energy! He simply reached to touch and involve the public, being also a great guitarist. Don't miss his video here! You can also listen to him on Spotify. It's a great festival btw, one of my favourite because of the beautiful locations and you can have a taste of some great bands! Great post and pics!!

Yes I figured that you were here but I didn't see you.....too many people I guess!

Yes Slam Allen was great!

Uno degli eventi più belli di Lugano ;-)
... ma quest'anno me lo sono perso :-(

Mama mia @steemitri. Va be.........2018!

Thx for the post.. never been to a blues festival... as you probably know by now I have a different favorite music... blogging 70 days in a row about it ;-) I also never was in Lugano. But hope to go there once, but for now it's not on my list.. first need to see some other plaves, like in year 2019 to the US.. That's why I started steemit and is my steemit goal..

Thx again, and waiting for your next post again!!

Yes, I love many genres of music. You have a great Steemit goal of getting the the US!

Thank you, and I actually starting to believe that it is possible..

Good music by the great bands in such a magnificent set-up. However I'd have loved it more in a more serene set up like on the banks of lake Lugano (in case if there is a possibility) or somewhere in nartural surroundings. Currently music seems to be trapped between the giant concrete structures (though they are beautiful too).

My city too organizes World Music Fest for last couple of years. It's held in February and just like this, is free for all 😊. Moreover, it's held on the banks of a lake as well as some other venue. Last year, they even put a floating stage in the water for the bands performing in early evening hours with sound system installed on the banks. People could stroll around the lake while enjoying their performance.

I know, you must have enjoyed it a lot. I was just giving my preference. If the organizers can do it for me, I MAY plan to join you in 2018 😉.

Thank you @peter-parker for these lovely pictures!

I'll submit your request. Hey maybe they'll make you a VIP guest for having such a great idea!

Ha ha ha! You are too funny!

Yes, somebody is talking about blues. Great!!

I've been a few times to the BRBF in Peer and saw great blues players like Thunderbirds and many more.

Sometimes my good old friends B.B and the Blues Shackes are live at this festivals and I love to go 2018 to Lugano.

If you love blues you might as well love beer - as this often goes together quite well. Than you might love my #BeerSaturday Challenge where I motivate people to create quality content around beer together with a story.

I do enjoy beer very much and I like to try different types. Last month I toured a brewery and wrote about it here. I'll check out your beer challenge!

Sounds like a plan. I will do the post for next #BeerSaturday soon and let you know.

A Crypto-Blues Bop....cant go far wrong with that! If I was there, I would go.
As some blues trivia, I'm sure you are well aware of Robert's deal with the devil?

Yes good old Robert became a good guitarist overnight but why????? What about Dylan?

Ah yes, the Old Dog knows his American music! Well Dylan has enough money, he can buy his soul back lol.
I just find it funny how the deal with the devil has worked itself into music over the years. Of course the big hit for Charlie Daniels "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is the classic example.

All i need is a glass of wine. Music festivals abound in and outside London, on ordinary days, individuals or groups busk in all corners.

Wow London! So much to see and do there. I love stopping to listen to buskers!

Yeah one can choose. Buskers are everywhere. The best were the live music along Regent's canal on top of boats. There were loads during the Olympics.

I would definitely rather not have them but to see them, oh yes, so good!!

You are a very wise man @meesterboom! Don't have them, don't get them but go and see them!

That should be a motivational poster!! Quick, find a picture of a nice sunset on a beach!!
