Celebrating NZ music throughout May: 22 - Miss June / Die! Die! Die! / Opposite Sex / Astro Children

Well, I got a nice surprise today when I checked out the video of the day. Even @sift666 might like these guys.

Featured on the NZ Music Month website today…

… was a band called Miss June with a track off their upcoming debut album, called Twitch.

They are described as a punk band and they sound rather like Blondie to me. So what else have they done, I asked? Then I found “Matriarchy” which is heavier punk.

That got me thinking about what other kiwi punk bands there are, and none immediately sprang to mind. Luckily, this article about some top NZ punk bands came to my rescue. Miss June was indeed one of them. They were the picks of Die! Die! Die! who have been kiwi punks for nearly 2 decades. Here they are with “Harmony”.

Their other top picks were Opposite Sex, Astro Children, Courtenay Hate, Caroles, and Soda Boyz. Here’s “La Rat’ by Opposite Sex

That’s probably enough punk for one day. But maybe we’ll check out the other three another day, along with some of the older punk bands.
