Why Steemit is Basically the Busking of the Internet (Top 10 List)

in #music7 years ago (edited)

Hear ye, hear ye! You can now busk from the comfort of your very own home. Or your quaint, rented basement suite.

(AKA: Don’t you agree that Steemit is basically just the busking of the internet?)

My Top Ten Airtight Reasons for Asserting Such a Thesis are as follows (very scientifically acquired, it should be noted):

  1. You show up in a busy place with lots of people whenever you want.

  2. You share some kind of public attraction with the hope of drawing lots of people over in the course of a few hours and having some of them throw some spare change your way.

  3. It isn’t quite illegal or anything, but something about the whole thing does feel a little rebellious and mission impossible-esque.

  4. You usually finish up with about 42 cents.

  5. But every once in a while someone throws a big bill in and makes your day.

  6. Sometimes you vote for yourself by putting some money on display to encourage other contributions.

  7. Most people ignore you.

  8. Some people throw in “pity” change because they are embarrassed you aren’t doing so well that day.

  9. Lots of people are kind and comment on how much they enjoy it.

  10. It is an utterly unpredictable but a hopeful way to share some of your work and maybe make some sweet frieeeeends and almost always leave with a little smile on your face. (Minus carrying a heavy guitar blocks back to your car that now has a parking ticket worth more than you made busking.)

There you have it. It's practically the same thing, right? :)

Kay

PS: I am a happy artist/singer-songwriter with real busking experience, so if you want to check out my videos, I would be happy to sing to you :). And you if appreciate my work, don’t forget to follow @kayclarity. I try to put out the best quality I can on a consistent basis. xx!

Sort:

I know exactly what you mean. I've been applying my street sense here since the beginning as well. I've brought this up with people, used the analogies, even wrote about the similarities myself.

You'll see a beggar on the street act desperate and get nothing, you'll see that here on Steemit as well. Ask for a vote, get nothing.

You'll see someone put on a good performance, and people line up to give thanks with a bit of spare change.

So much of the real world exists here.

It is really cool to encounter, and I'm learning that increasingly more every day--and also not to take things all too seriously in the end. The inherent unpredictability of it all is just part of the process.

I love your blog! So glad you saw this and upvoted so I would know to go and check it out! :)

Excellent analogy. That pretty much sums up Steemit. I like it :-D

Thank you! When it came to me, I knew I had to post about it. Hilarious. :)

Loved this post! So much truth to this☺️

Lovely day to you friend!

So glad! It really is true isn't it??

You, too! Thanks for all of your nice comments all of the time! xx!

Lol this is a cool comparison :) Are people really kind and encouraging to buskers though? hmm

haha no maybe not :). But there are always SOME, at least as I have experienced. Most people ignore you--but that doesn't mean you're bad. It usually just means they are busy. A good thing to remember on here as well!

Yeah..good point..Sometimes it means ppl are doing it out of habit when they ignore buskers too..

but here on steemit, it's definitely way more probable that they are busy..it can be quite a lot of work on the eyes and brain to create content, curate content, comment on content, reply to comments on your content, reply to replies, chat a little in discord, chat a little in slack, etc etc.. lolll

Good point!! I think Steemit is an oasis for starving artists to really get a good financial back bone.

It's true. That's a neat way of putting it--getting a sense of having real value for your work, hey?

It can be like busking from the comfort of your home

I agree... in india busking is frowned upon and i had an experience when the cops ran me out of my favorite spot and was told if they ever see me again they would throw me in jail.

It's safe to play on steemit no cops around.

Ah! lol! Yep - no cops! The many perks of Steemit :)

I am here by recommendation, and I must say Good taste Friend!

I would say who it is but despite his persona he is a humble altruist without a name...

I will definitely check out your busking experience, have to see if this claim is real after all ;)

Wish you'd tell me! :). But thank you so much! I know you sent another person my way recently as well.. so thank you (another humble altruist, I am guessing!)

Actually, there was a clue in those words, a man without a name, there is another way of saying that.... ;)
The resteem was able to shine a bit of a light on you for some of my friends, but really you brought them to yourself by being gifted and cool ;)

Nice post. Number 8 made me chuckle.

lol the worrrrrst
