The Making of "Spiritual" Music video - How it was
2 months ago we (Chasing Embers) shot our second music video for the song "Spiritual".
And today, exclusively for the steemit community, we will talk about how it was (the "making of" video is attached).
It took us 6 months to come up with final script for this video together with our director.
One of the first ideas was to shot a simple video in complete darkness, the band members should have just played intruments and worn various national clothes and masks of ancient Mexico, China, Egypt, etc.
No plot was planned. But in the end, everything turned out to be radically different.
We decided to throw away the original idea. The plot became the main thing.
Every character (performed by the band members) is trying to change himself or to release his true essence, so it goes well with the lyrics of this song.
And now I will briefly describe the most interesting moments about filming this music video:
- most of the scenes were shot in the building of the former strip club, musicians had to unscrew hundreds of screws from the floor and remove the striptease poles, that prevented the arrangement of the location. Several scenes were shot in the backyard of the director’s house.
- the filming was almost canceled the day before the start, due to power surges in the electrical panel of the building. The cause of these surges was fixed at the very last moment. Perhaps this was the most nervous moment for us that day)
- our drummer Vlad shaved off all the hair on his face and head, including his eyebrows to make this music video more shocking. Over the next month he's been wearing glasses and a cap not to get too much attention to his changes in the office where he works. He accidentally cut his eyebrow, it was not planned, but it looked a bit terrifying, so we decided to include these shots in the video)
- our guitarist Sasha had to change himself into a woman. It was so funny to look at the reactions of sellers when Sasha tried on different dresses in the store.
- our frontwoman July had to freeze for an hour in a cold water. The air temperature outside was near 15 degrees Celsius. And she also had to sing the words during that hour. Only in the middle of filming process we were told that there was a possibility of supplying hot water, so we began to add it to the pool between the takes.
- it was fully DIY music video made on our own money
- the director Alex enjoyed to work with our band so much that he went on tour as a DJ and backing vocalist of our band)
All in all it was so hard but so exciting expirience for us, that made us stronger as a team.
