When you can't ride due to injury and you see an old pic :(

in #motocross7 years ago

Man being out with an injury is harsh at the best of times, sure it's the nature of the beast with this sport but it does not soften the blow when it happens. I find this is the time that you look back and check out pics from when you were feeling great. I have been very lucky in my life with injuries but i started riding motocross quite late in life. When i was a kid we did not have much and i love my parents for every single thing they gave me and my family. Sure i would have loved to spend every moment on a dirt bike but it the cost of a sport like this was out of reach.

I waited, i learned, i earned and i found a way in adult life to buy my own bike and start to ride. Some would say that this is the true way to do it as it was something earned and achieved but i also can see the amazing bond that grows over a lifetime learning and enjoying with son/father.

I miss my father every day and i miss the times together working on bikes or simply talking about them.

Message for today guys is simply learn to live in the moment with the things you love. It does not matter who came first or last, or why something happened. Love it for what it is... That is all that matters :)

p.s. back to wishing i could have a day soon like the pic above :)

I can certainly identify with you on this one. It was a bit different for me. My father got into the sport when I was young way back in the early 70's. I got my first bike, a Honda MR50 at 4 and was soon racing. I got to meet some of the legends in those days as a kid. Roger DeCoster, Brad Lackey, Bob Hannah, as well as many of the European riders. Hekki Mikola and Marty Smith were two of my heros. I eventually moved up to an Suzuki RM80 but my parents divorced and going to the track became impossible. I continued to love motorcycles and at one point bought a Yamaha Yzf 426 and returned to dirt riding in the early 2000s. Approaching 50 now, my motocross riding days are over but I still love the sport. I'm hoping to either find a local track and partner with them here in Acapulco or start one. Maybe even start a Husky dealership since I'd love to see the sport grow here.

Awesome story @mikeonfire! You certainly did meet some legends mate! DeCoster was a phenomenal rider and i think is suited to KTM more than he was on Suzuki. He had a great technical style, not too dissimilar to Dungey and Musquin have which is always amazing to watch. Some riders are just flat out pushing themselves past the limit but i always enjoy the technical riders more.

Was great to hear about your past and maybe you should do a write up on it? I for one would love to see or hear anything you have on the subject :)

Also pumped you are still enjoying things and that you have plans for the future! Keep me posted on how it develops mate :)

very good your post

That just pump you up to ride again isn't it :)

Intriguing post

OH, better luck next time to him :)

Nice one @aftabkhan10, that 'him' is me :)

Oh, so you are too a rider? :)

Is that you in the first picture? If so it seemed like you had a great time on the track with your bike and I hope one day you can go back to your past and conquer the course once again.

I'm sorry for the loss of your father but one positive thing that comes out of this as I'm constantly hit with the reality that my father is going to pass one day and posts and stories like this always make me want to spend more time with him and have sweet embraces before it is too late.

I wish all the best for you @b0y2k
