Life Is Short 生命短暂

We like it or not that we have to be confronted by the question of life from time to time. When a friend of ours has passed away or someone we know is dying in the hospital, we are naturally being triggered to think about death.

Do people afraid of death? Indeed, people are afraid as death is about uncertainty. I once talked to a person who works in a mortuary. He admitted that they too are afraid especially coming across of people who die untimely. However, they have not much time to think of the issue of death as they are pretty occupied by attending those who are in a bereavement.

Death is real and everyone has to face it. When our time on earth comes to an end, what awaits us is death. Isn’t it important for us to set aside some time to explore the issue of death, or in other words, the question of life before it dawns upon us?

Indeed, if we do not know what death is implying, we do not know how to live meaningfully. One of the implications of death is that life is short. Since life is short, we need to maximise our life. It means that we need to live to be a blessing for others. And when we die, we rest from our labour, and the legacy will last beyond us.

無論喜欢与否，我们时不时都要面对生命的问题。当我们的一位朋友去世或一位认识的人在医院走到人生的尽头时，这很自然会引发我们想到死的问题。

人会害怕死亡吗？事实上，人们会因为死亡带来的不确定性而害怕。我曾经和一位在太平间工作的人交谈过。他坦承他们也会因为面对突然而死的人而害怕；然而，他们很快又需要面对其他死者家人的需求而放下了思考死亡的问题。

死亡必竟是真实的，而每个人都必须面对它。当我们在世上的时间结束时，等待着我们的将是死亡。因此，我们是否必须留出一些时间来探讨死亡问题呢？换句话说，我们是否在死亡倘未来到之前即探索死後的问题呢？

如果我们不知道死亡意味着什么，我们就不知道如何有意义地生活。死亡的其中一个含义是生命短暂；而由于生命短暂，我们就需要善用生命。这意味着我们需要活着以成为别人的祝福，而当我们死后，我们要得安息，而我们作工的果效要持续下去。

Life apparently is like a fountain and it is attractive only for a short time.
生命如同一个喷泉因为其光芒不过是短暂的。
