Why I do not believe in privilege
There are many people who had better technology growing up, better mentors. A better level of education. Whose unemployed today and struggling.
People who are on the same so called "privilege line" who built nothing. Where I built a life.
Now I am not saying that privilege does not exist, I am simply saying that I do not believe in it. Nobody can do anything about privilege. Some are born to rich households, some are born to poor. This will always be life. The moment you are born into this life. Your level of privilege is fixed and you can do nothing about it. You cannot change your parents.
This privilege could shift from one person to another, or from one group to another. If this shifts from one group to another even among the group there will be a divide. There are rich and poor in all races and cultures. This is why movements that are aimed towards liberating a group of people normally only benefit a hand full whilst the majority still suffer.
So if focusing on privilege is a bad thing, what is an alternative?
Focus on what you do have and forget about anything you wish you had. Forget about that guy whose life seems so much easier than yours. Remember that somewhere in this world there's someone who had it way worse than you whose living the life because they took the time to work on themselves.
To me potential is the answer to any person whose life is not what they wish it was... Whether you believe it or not every single homeless person in this world (with a few years left to live) has the potential to become a millionaire. It has been done. Any person who has some form of disability (That does not affect their mental health). Has the ability to become a millionaire. Any person whose struggling to get by from month to month has the potential to become a millionaire.
Now I will mention. Your focus in life should not be about money. In my experience focusing on money is a recipe for disaster. But when it comes to privilege. It is almost always about the monetary status of a person. Its about what they have. Its normally about rich vs poor. That is why I used a monetary scale in measuring potential in this post.
In this sense, I find privilege to be a meaningless concept. I find it far more important and effective to focus on how far you go in life than where you started.
The rich can end bankrupt,
The poor can end in millions.
Where you start is often something that you cannot change. But you have the ultimate say in where you end.
Even if you really just have the worst life ahead of you. You still have choice. You still have some say in life. It could take years.

Well said. We all should really focus on our own potential and see the potential in others.
I do believe that it is possible to rise above your station.
And while you spoke primarily about wealth, people also see it as the opportunities they have, or the ability to move from class to class or fulfill their desires. Wealth can pretty much provide that, which I think is your main point, but I believe the opportunities to improve are everywhere, as you also say.
If we can care less about what others have, while working diligently toward what we want, potential gets realized.
I, too, have found that building a life, one that includes family, friends and memories, provides wealth, too. A legacy rich with joy and happiness.
There's much truth in your reply.
Money was actually one of my last focuses in life, it was simply a by product of my character. I wanted to become a great programmer. I did not care about the bank account. But it caught on later. Even with that said its one of my last focuses in life.
And its probably the one that satisfies me the least. I am actually somewhat of a minimalist. I generally only buy things on practical grounds. Otherwise. No.
Back on point, Anyone can better their life. And its a good feeling. To look back and be satisfied with what you have achieved. I think that's true for everyone. I also feel this focus will differ among people.
What I was talking about was mainly success. But I did not touch on purpose. Purpose is a different game.
To me money is really just a little bit of security. But even with financial security your life can be a mess. But without financial security life can be good too.
This subject goes so deep because I believe what the ideal life would look like will be different for everyone with some common elements. Conflict free relationships are good, being knowledgeable is good, being in good health is good, having more money than you "need" is good. So the skeleton is the same. But what we do with it will differ. Me, I gained financial freedom, This caused me to start working more. Not less. Because my ideal life is one where I push myself and try to be a positive change the world.
Someone else might want to travel. Spend more time with family.
This is a very good message @upclass! I definitely agree completely with you :) Good post and glad to have you back for a bit ;)
Thank you @davemccoy. I do not always come around but I try. I am hoping to come around more often (I want to start using DTUBE as well. But video, video scares me a bit.)
