The United States is a land of immigrants, and that's one of our most amazing assets. It takes a special kind of courage to pack up your life, leave the country you know and everything familiar behind and start again in a strange land. It's the courage of risk-takers, creative and resourceful people determined to make their lives work with a ferocity that becomes a family asset. More than ever, we need that kind of strength today.
@karencarrens' family comes from Taiwan. My great-grandparents came here from Bohemia ... once part of Czechoslovakia. Now called The Czech Republic. One of us begins to tell her parents' story in the post below. The other ... remains a mystery.

Thanks for liking the quilt. It is my favorite hobby...if only I had some time, a self-cleaning house, self-teaching kids, dinner that made itself...you know, all the stuff that would free up hours of my life daily? ;)
