Many people in this great country and the world for that matter are born into situations, which are less than ideal. Some of us are born into situations where we are poor and receive a “less then optimal” education. This lack of education usually means that our job choices are limited, our income is limited and we can barely pay our bills. It’s easy at this point to become angry and frustrated at our financial situation and our inability to provide a better life for our spouse, our children and others who depend on us.
We can also feel powerless to improve our condition.

Surprisingly, others who are born into the middle class, as average individuals may receive minimal education end up with the same limited job choices and bad financial situation. They were not born poor but feel the same feelings of anger, despair and hopelessness. These people can also feel powerless to improve their condition. This view from the bottom of the hill looking up towards the success we all desire looks daunting. Sometimes it looks impossible. This can create feelings of helplessness, which breeds anger. This anger can consume you and turn you into a bitter person.

When I was young I also felt this anger, but to accompany it I had a sense of optimism. I had many positive role models in my family, my community and in the world through TV and Radio. Many of these individuals I looked up to were born of poor or modest means and they had become successful. I believed they decided that getting mad was a waste of energy, so instead they got motivated. They became motivated to learn a skill, learn a business or obtain an education. They decided to use their emotional energy to propel themselves up the hill of life towards their goals, instead of using this energy negatively to dig an hole of self-pity where their dreams and hopes would die. They decided that the best way to deal with their present situation was to make it their past situation. They decided that they wanted to build a better future and they set about building it today. This future is what they focused on, not their anger towards their present life. Their upward paths were not smooth ones, they were filled with bumps and detours disguised as frustration and discouragement. But their goals and dreams become their beacons and drew them over the bumps, around the detours and fueled their motivation to achieve their dreams.

So I say don’t get mad, get motivated. I suggest that you use that emotional energy in a positive sense to better your situation. I suggest not spending any time thinking about how bad your situation is, because it will only make you angry. Instead take the frustration you have with your situation and redirect it towards something positive: bettering and motivating yourself. Spend your time investigating job training programs, scholarships and grants for your education.

In short, don't get mad, get motivated.

Interesting advice and it seems easy to follow. I try to keep a positive outlook and with my job it's simple to pretend but I often feel like I'm in a rut from working at the same company for fifteen years.

Thank you for your kind words and thanks for the shout out in your blog.

You're very welcome. Thank you for putting a new spark in me

Excellent post and I agree 100 %. I learned along time ago to not worry about things you can't change. Being bitter accomplishes nothing .. move forward with positivity.

Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed the blogpost.
