Humans of Star Trek - William Riker (Daily Star Trek Motivation)
Welcome to Humans of Star Trek, a daily Star Trek inspired motivation series.
These are the voyages of Starfleet personnel who came together to give us a future that humanity craves for and deserves. Together, let's boldly go where no one has gone before.
William Thomas "Will" Riker served as the First Officer aboard the USS Enterprise-D and the USS Enterprise-E under Captain Jean-Luc Picard. He later served as the Captain of USS Titan.
Riker is perhaps the most famous "Number One" of all-time. This philosophical observation on human history, which doubles up as an epic quote, is a beautiful take on the never-ending societal problems humanity has faced.
If an overwhelming majority of us cared deeply about our fellow beings and actively and collectively discouraged our governments and powerful institutions not to indulge in war, violence, or hatred of any kind we could have prevented much bloodshed. Having said that I believe we have hope. Irrespective of how fucked up the world may seem let's not forget that we live in the greatest time there's ever been to be alive.
We have taught ourselves to conquer diseases. We have build global communication channels that allow people of incredibly diverse backgrounds to connect and learn from each other - something that wasn't even possible just a few decades ago. And while there is so much more to be done and so much agony and bloodshed still present in the world, we can conquer this agony if we collectively decided that we will treat each other better, come what may.
Maybe a Will Riker born in the 24th century will look back at 'our collective global effort to care' and smile at how far we have come.
