The onion

  "Once there was a very bad old woman and she died. The woman had not made a single good action in her life and they threw her into the lake of fire. But the guardian angel who was there thought: "What good deed could I remember to tell God?" Then he remembered something and told him:  

  - Once he took an onion from his little garden and gave it to a poor man.  

  And God answered him with pleasure: "Take that onion yourself and throw it into the lake so that you can hold on to it. If you can get it out of the fire, it will go to paradise, but if the onion breaks it will have to stay where it is. " The angel ran to the woman and handed him the onion: "Here, woman, hold on tight, let's see if I can get you out."

  And he started pulling carefully. When he had almost taken her out completely, the other sinners who were in the lake of fire noticed it and they all started to hold on to her so that she could also get out of there. But the woman was bad, very bad, and she kicked them saying: "They are going to take only me, not you: it's my onion, not yours." 

 But he had barely uttered these words, when the onion broke in two and the woman fell back into the lake of fire. There it burns to this day.  

  The angel burst into tears and left."
